The Gifts that Keeps on Giving ((You)) Nightmares

It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy.

Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! (Or try and sneak into the rides -- then face the wrath of the snowman robots and their snowman firearms :D)

PHASE I

[ xxxx ] Do you like ferris wheels? This is an enchanting one where you get to ride around in a giant snowflake at a very limited speed. The wheel will turn excruciatingly slow before stopping abruptly, leaving you trapped at the very top. We hope you're not afraid of heights because you're going to be in there for a while! The windows on the snowflake will rapidly darken leaving you and your fellow riders trapped in the darkness. At that moment, you will feel something warm breathing down your neck and along the back of your ear. As you reach over, you'll feel like the chair underneath you is made of snakeskin, and a hissing sound will intensify as the "chair" squirms and as the breathing gets louder and hotter. Scrabble at the doors, fight your way out! Will you escape or not? Probably not, but the experience will last only a good five minutes before the lights come back on and before the ferris wheel starts moving again. The chair will appear as normal, and there will be no one else inside except any fellow riders who came with you.

PHASE II

[ xxxx ] If the ferris wheel didn't "do it" for you, then perhaps a fun house will? If you're a fan, that is! This Christmas-themed funhouse features a wonderful walk through a snowy forest convered in singing reindeer. The more you walk through, the more you will notice things like within the distorted mirrors, there will briefly appear strange specters. You will also hear a bunch of howling in the background, and while you may think that you're safe since they're trapped behind a mirror, you are very wrong. The lights will go out once more, and you will hear the mirrors shatter all around and feel yourself being grabbed and hurled to the ground. Whatever is coming for you is something you can't see, but it's advancing fast with impressive strength to hurl you back once more. You will feel pain erupt through your body before an engineer will appear to get the lights back on. Once they're back on, the reindeer will be happily singing, and all the mirrors will appear as they were before -unbroken.

PHASE III

[ xxxx ] After those interesting adventures, another option would be to simply visit the rocking santacoaster, a large, sprawling roller coaster that reaches 150 mph. You will be strapped into a sled and be shot through the tracks where you can scream and cry all you want except once you reach the tunnel, everything will come to a sudden stop (whiplash pending). You and the other riders will be in there for a few minutes, surrounded by a dozen santas as they start to fly out from the tunnel walls, carrying swords and swooping down to take a swipe at you. You better duck or be prepared to be cut up by their blades. The rollercoaster will abruptly resume, and when you reach the end, you might notice some bleeding, a little bit of hair missing, or some clothes shred up. If you ask the snowman robots about it, they will just shrug and claim they don't know what you're talking about. Please go enjoy a snowcone on the house!

PHASE IV

[ xxxx ] The Christmas whirl will be your last stop for the evening! This is a ride that goes round and round and round while tilting. Everyone will be strapped into it while standing up and forced to hold on as it spins, and somewhere in the midst of the spinning, the ride will suddenly malfunction. Yes, big surprise there! But it won't stop spinning. It will just be a rockier ride, and you will seemingly enter a new space where you will be among the stars and seeing planets all around you. Your own home planet will be amongst them before it breaks open like an egg and out crawls a friendly visitor. If you get bit by it, you will spend the rest of the day and night experiencing an array of possible symptoms, including: a voracious appetite, a fear of light, the urge to 'mate' with anyone who smells especially good, heightened senses, the ability to climb on all kinds of surfaces, irritability and crankiness... (( you don't have to experience them all. you can pick and choose which one you like. ))

BONUS

[ whyo'clock ] What's that jingling you hear in the background? Why, it's Santa Clause! Coming here all the way from the North Pole. The park will stop, and all the snowman robots will gather in the square, ushering along as many people as possible. Santa-Bot X-3 will be seated on his chair to welcome all visitors to sit on his metaphorical lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. He will then give them a nicely wrapped present and tell them that it's exactly what they asked for, but they can't open it until they get home. For those who can't wait and choose to open it quickly, they will get some nice treats from Mundus Caelestis. But beware! Those who do take this gift home will experience a weird after-effect as the lovely red and white toy will come to life on its own and hop out of the box that evening to try and violently electrocute the owner. The other one is completely harmless.

[Since that's the only guy he's heard about so far from Yang. And if you are, the only story that Naoki's heard is how you tried to ask Weiss out by serenading her. Respect, man. That takes guts.]

[He'd been wandering around in here as well, and he was getting used to hearing the shrieks -- but he didn't realize that there was going to be one so close to him. He jumps a little before he looks around, and he catches sight of her just before the lights go out.]

Hey!

[He moves to help her out, and instead of attacking something he can't see, he reaches down to grab where he thinks her arms are and pulling so that maybe he can get her out of its grip.]

[ Oh, Yang... old buddy, old pal... ]

Huh? Ah!! Right! The man himself! Yeah, Jaune. Jaune Arc! I'm kind-- wait, hold the phone, she did brag about me, didn't she?

[Since going through the coaster himself, Nice has decided he's going to end up popcorn.gifing whoever comes off of it.

Literally. He found popcorn.

Now, he's just found this poor soul...]

I don't know, it might look better that way.

[Souji beams at the girl as she reaches out, and while Saizō in turn glares at her and makes mutinous-sounding noises, he nonetheless concedes graciously to be petted. And the attention does seem to have a positive effect on the shaking, too.

Souji laughs and wrinkles his nose a bit.] To tell the truth, I think I'll wait a while before I try anything new, too. Maybe it takes a bit of getting used to, you know? [Not that he's entirely sure why people would willingly expose themselves to the experience yet.]

Though from the way you talk about it, you're used to something different?

[Naoki doesn't even need to say it aloud, there's a great big blaring no written all over his face. And helpfully, without mentioning the serenading thing:] She said you were the leader of another team.

And that you were a great guy. [THERE YOU GO a couple of positives in with the embarrassing. Since that was shortly followed by basically "yeah no he tries for lady killing but no".]

[ She's not paying attention, until someone screams and Saya looks up, only to glimpse the robot heading her way. Her reaction is instinctive, from hours of ViViD in training--focusing, she imagines a barrier. There's a brief flash of light and the robot suddenly halts to a stop inches from her.

She did it...! Saya looks at the sight in front of her in amazement, and then realizes she's being stared at. Face instantly colouring, she turns to flee--in Tieria's direction. ]

[Nice is more or less draped all over the seat that he's on by himself on the ferris wheel, and he's completely relaxed for a while.

That is, until he finally takes notice of the guy sitting across with him with his face in his hands.]

This place getting to you, huh?

[He sounds kind of bored about it though, indicated he might not really care about Tadashi's answer that much.]

[Nice notices the girl covered in blood when she first gets off the ride, and after a quick assessment (and realizing that she's kind of cute), he realizes that she's pretty much fine.

She wouldn't be beckoning to him and speaking if she wasn't, anyway.]

Then clearly you've never been to America during the Christmas season.

[...Neither have you, Nice.]

[ Damn it. ]

Tch... Whatever, I got my point across. What were you doing kicking it anyway?

[ They're annoying and don't really help much, especially when questioned about the weird nature of all of the attractions here. Gareki has managed to ignore them for most of his trip here.

and wow, ignoring him!! He hates getting ignored. ]

[Souji has great respect for doctors, he really does, knowing that it must be an incredibly difficult task to bear the burden of everyone you can help, and everyone you can't. But he hates being a burden on anyone if he can help it, and has already been fussed about by the medical staff here on arrival.

And honestly, he wishes he could refuse any help at all and say he will be fine, but he's still nauseous and a bit shaky, and he doesn't want to make even more of a nuisance of himself for someone else.]

I suppose you're right - it's probably good if I rest for a little while. I'm sorry to bother you even more, but do you think you could help me back there? [He gestures in the direction of a collection of tables connected to an ice cream stand.]

[ This is... entirely going all to his head. ]

Wow, Yang really said I'm a great guy?! I had no idea...

I-I mean, about her opinion, not that I'm not a great guy! But I don't mean to toot my own horn or anything, hahaha... [ No, look, Jaune's totally beaming. Thank you for sparing him the embarrassment, pal. Or just... postponing it, rather. ]

[HE CAN SEE IT... Naoki's just watching that ego inflating with amusement. He's sure that Yang'll shut it down later if Jaune's head ends up too big.]

I get the impression she thinks a lot of her friends, so. [He spreads his hands apart, shrugging with a smile.]

[Continuing on his watching of people who come off the roller coaster ride...why can't you at least be warning people before they get on it, Nice. It's kind of rude to just let people go on this roller coaster of death without saying anything to them first...

Oh well.]

Can't you just buy a new one?

[Says the person who doesn't buy hardly anything.]

[ Though she's somewhat drained herself, the swaying catches her attention. Worriedly, Saya approaches him. ]

Um, excuse me... Are you feeling alright?

How well do you know the circumstances, exactly?

I wouldn't know, honestly. I'm afraid I don't get presents all that much.

If you just told me what's inside of it, I would have let go of it faster.

[ That or shown him the contents, but Gareki didn't need a visual of it. He's content with the knowledge that he has now. And he'll stop harassing Yogi about it, too. ]

But, to be honest, the "gift" is probably the least terrible thing about this place.

[ Probably because he's personally experienced almost everything this park had to offer. ]

Did you try any of the attractions?

[Nice regards the Santa-Bot when he hears someone talk about it, and then shrugs.]

Is it better than sitting on the lap of a real person, though?

[...That probably sounds really awkward out of context.]

phase ii

[The dissonance between everything today is enough to make anyone's head spin, one Flynn Scifo included. First the news from Drake about his position being made official, then winding up in this world to be told his world along with numerous others are presently gone and then finally being shoved onto a bus only to end up in an amusement park: it's an emotional whiplash. Maybe that's the purpose of these festivities, to help ease the nerves of new arrivals and Flynn's not about to pass that chance up.

Oddly enough, the little forgotten accessory on his head nearly makes him blend in, but the flashy, almost blindingly shiny armor kills any chance of fully blending in. How much he stands out goes over his head due to being engrossed in taking in the sights. The proprietors of this fair truly went all out. Impressive. What the theme is, however, escapes him. Christmas must be a holiday, a winter one by the looks of things.

Taking in the sights leads to him spotting the first appealing attraction: a fun house. Nice and simple and relaxing or so the poor fool thinks. It begins innocently enough with simple and soothing designs greeting him as he walks inside. The snowy backdrop brings back some memories of back home and of Aurnion, that newly created city. Nostalgic thoughts prevent him from noticing the atmosphere of this attraction shift into something horrifying.

A sudden howl instantly jolts him into awareness. What the...? His eyes widen at the sight of the mirrors, or rather, the ghoulish beings within them.]

...What is that?

[Is this part of Christmas, too? He'll pass on ever taking part in this holiday if it is.]

phase iii

[Bad idea number two is the roller-coaster. Fun house was not fun, but maybe roller-coaster will fair better! That train of thought gets sliced into pieces. Literally.

As soon the car comes back down from its adventure, Flynn bolts over to the first staff member he sees. Several small and bloody cuts are scattered on his face and a bit of his hair looks as though a hair dresser cut it while drunk. The good news is that his armor deflected most of the attack but not without visible damage. Ceremonial armor can't stand up to attacks as well as combat armor, which explains the dents in numerous places and a large crack on his breastplate.

Anyone watching the dialogue exchange will witness Flynn grow increasingly irate. All attempts to tell the robot of what happened get waved off! How could it have such indifference to the safety of others!? Within a few moments, the once quiet blond is practically shouting. Anyone close by can clearly hear what's being said.]

No! It was not nothing! Innocents could have been killed! Why do you fail to see how that is not nothing?

[HOW IS THIS NOT GETTING THROUGH?? NO, HE DOES NOT WANT A SNOWCONE. HE WANTS YOU TO LISTEN, YOU STUPID ROBOT.]

phase iv

[Third time's the charm, right? Wrong, but poor Flynn doesn't know that and opts to try one final ride. Perhaps those first two had been a fluke. Granted, speaking with the person in charge WILL happen, but only once his temper has settled after that less than enjoyable chat with the robot. Ugh, all that came from their talk is a bad mood and a coupon for a snow cone.

The Whirl starts up without a hitch and manages to slowly but surely improve his bad mood. The sudden addition of the stars is breathtaking and seeing Terca Lumireis results in an actual smile. What incredible technology... And then comes the spider, who manages to find one of the few gaps in Flynn's armor and sink its fangs right in. Today seriously is NOT his day.

As soon as the pain subsides, anger comes flying out full force. That's it. He's done. So done. No more of this bullshit and near-death experiences. Rather than walk off the ride like a normal person, he stomps off the ride with an expression that could kill. The robot maintaining the whirl doesn't know where the flying snow cone comes from or who threw it but it smacks the bot right in the head. Best use of that damn coupon.

Does the assault on machinery help better his mood? Not at all. Flynn continues looking mad as all hell and the fact this amusement park just got like 10 times louder is not helping. Did they purposely crank up the noise somehow and dear god when was the last time trashes were changed? He scrunches his nose while shooting a menacing leer at a trashcan a few feet away. How incompetent are these damn people!? In other words, guess who got super sense and super cranky thanks to the spider bite. Anyone who gets in his way or chews some churros too loudly may end up facing the wrath of one very grumpy knight.]

[He was about to ask what he means by having his own room and things already here but then he mentions the fridge and he's immediately suspicious. Tenka can't cook at all so he wasn't expecting it to be full of decent food but now he's just worried.]

Hmm, that's true. She's like the mother hen of Team RWBY, always looking out for the others, but who's looking out for her? It's only natural that she wants to form a strong connection with a steady leader. But!! She's Ruby's sister, too, and there are some places a man just can't go, y'know? I should let her down gently, but I don't wanna break her sweet heart. No, I'll just make her think she's breaking mine! Yeah, that's the plan. I'll make up rumors about myself and spread them, the kind of rumors that would just make a girl rethink her options, that should do the trick...

[ He's trailing off. Sorry, Naoki, if you're still here and listening to this madness. ]

[His voice comes off a little more scathing than intended, but he's right. He's not sure he enjoys this 'fun' this place is giving him as he takes out his second blade, again turning that into a gun and now dual wielding. Well, if he gets in trouble for vandalization, he'll take the charges given their treatment of him. So shooting through the fun house is a go! Though he's making sure he can hear the girl to ensure he won't shoot her.

At least he wouldn't want to shoot her in the back.]

The higher-ups are about as helpful as soggy pancakes, and something usually tends to mess with either your mind or your body at any given time.
