//event011.EXE The Gifts that Keeps on Giving ((You)) Nightmares It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy. Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! //SCENARIOS.EXE PHASE I [ xxxx ] Do you like ferris wheels? This is an enchanting one where you get to ride around in a giant snowflake at a very limited speed. The wheel will turn excruciatingly slow before stopping abruptly, leaving you trapped at the very top. We hope you're not afraid of heights because you're going to be in there for a while! The windows on the snowflake will rapidly darken leaving you and your fellow riders trapped in the darkness. At that moment, you will feel something warm breathing down your neck and along the back of your ear. As you reach over, you'll feel like the chair underneath you is made of snakeskin, and a hissing sound will intensify as the "chair" squirms and as the breathing gets louder and hotter. Scrabble at the doors, fight your way out! Will you escape or not? Probably not, but the experience will last only a good five minutes before the lights come back on and before the ferris wheel starts moving again. The chair will appear as normal, and there will be no one else inside except any fellow riders who came with you. PHASE II [ xxxx ] If the ferris wheel didn't "do it" for you, then perhaps a fun house will? If you're a fan, that is! This Christmas-themed funhouse features a wonderful walk through a snowy forest convered in singing reindeer. The more you walk through, the more you will notice things like within the distorted mirrors, there will briefly appear strange specters. You will also hear a bunch of howling in the background, and while you may think that you're safe since they're trapped behind a mirror, you are very wrong. The lights will go out once more, and you will hear the mirrors shatter all around and feel yourself being grabbed and hurled to the ground. Whatever is coming for you is something you can't see, but it's advancing fast with impressive strength to hurl you back once more. You will feel pain erupt through your body before an engineer will appear to get the lights back on. Once they're back on, the reindeer will be happily singing, and all the mirrors will appear as they were before -unbroken. PHASE III [ xxxx ] After those interesting adventures, another option would be to simply visit the rocking santacoaster, a large, sprawling roller coaster that reaches 150 mph. You will be strapped into a sled and be shot through the tracks where you can scream and cry all you want except once you reach the tunnel, everything will come to a sudden stop (whiplash pending). You and the other riders will be in there for a few minutes, surrounded by a dozen santas as they start to fly out from the tunnel walls, carrying swords and swooping down to take a swipe at you. You better duck or be prepared to be cut up by their blades. The rollercoaster will abruptly resume, and when you reach the end, you might notice some bleeding, a little bit of hair missing, or some clothes shred up. If you ask the snowman robots about it, they will just shrug and claim they don't know what you're talking about. Please go enjoy a snowcone on the house! PHASE IV [ xxxx ] The Christmas whirl will be your last stop for the evening! This is a ride that goes round and round and round while tilting. Everyone will be strapped into it while standing up and forced to hold on as it spins, and somewhere in the midst of the spinning, the ride will suddenly malfunction. Yes, big surprise there! But it won't stop spinning. It will just be a rockier ride, and you will seemingly enter a new space where you will be among the stars and seeing planets all around you. Your own home planet will be amongst them before it breaks open like an egg and out crawls a friendly visitor. If you get bit by it, you will spend the rest of the day and night experiencing an array of possible symptoms, including: a voracious appetite, a fear of light, the urge to 'mate' with anyone who smells especially good, heightened senses, the ability to climb on all kinds of surfaces, irritability and crankiness... (( you don't have to experience them all. you can pick and choose which one you like. )) BONUS [ whyo'clock ] What's that jingling you hear in the background? Why, it's Santa Clause! Coming here all the way from the North Pole. The park will stop, and all the snowman robots will gather in the square, ushering along as many people as possible. Santa-Bot X-3 will be seated on his chair to welcome all visitors to sit on his metaphorical lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. He will then give them a nicely wrapped present and tell them that it's exactly what they asked for, but they can't open it until they get home. For those who can't wait and choose to open it quickly, they will get some nice treats from Mundus Caelestis. But beware! Those who do take this gift home will experience a weird after-effect as the lovely red and white toy will come to life on its own and hop out of the box that evening to try and violently electrocute the owner. The other one is completely harmless. [Peko's seated peacefully enough in the Ferris wheel; she wasn't really looking forward to any of the rides, but this on should (in theory) give her a splendid vantage point to look for a certain new arrival whose presence she's not aware of yet. Thus, she's seated as close to the window as possible, only giving those who happen to climb aboard with her a cursory glance before returning her attention to the ground below.

There's a katana propped up next to her between her and the door, so sitting too closely is Not Recommended.]

If it is not too much trouble, [she mentions to whomever comes on board, pointing to the opposite window without looking,] Could you please indicate if you see this person?

[There's an electronic student ID sitting on the seat next to her, displaying some loser's profile. Those who can read Japanese can see that his name is Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, and he has the title of Super High School Level Yakuza (whatever that means).]

[Funhouses are supposed to be a good training exercise, right?? Like a haunted house, entering one and trying not to overreact and slice everything around you to bits is good training. Or so she'd tried to think. That attitude doesn't last long, especially considering the sharp katana at her hip. The specters, of course, aren't harmed by her lightning-quick strikes, and when the lights come back on, Peko's pushing herself to her feet, breathing heavily. She makes no move to sheath her blade, and will continue walking with the katana drawn, just in case.

Might not be a bad person to stick close to for protection in case another breakdown happens, right?]

[Yeah, no, Peko's not waiting until she gets home to open her presents. Or, well, all of them, anyway. She gets as far as opening the "mistletoe" and reading it before immediately dropping it back in the box. That's. Nope. Not even opening that last one. Hubert is, but he’s definitely not showing it – just showing signs that he’s unaffected by it all.]

[At least he is making progress or he thinks he is as he physically prompts the girl to follow him as well, waving at her to come near him. He wonders if he should be polite and mention his name, but he’s not here to be nice. He’s not here to make friends – he just wants out. [ While AndrAIa does reflexively reach for the length of metal strapped to her right leg when she's being ushered towards the bus, she forces herself to relax after a beat. Probably not a great idea to attack the natives (?) yet, especially when she has no idea where Matrix and Frisket are. Granted, she can actually buy the backed-up data story from the power points - she'd backed herself up, once - she's not entirely willing to take the story at face value.

After that split second of near reaction, she seems almost easy-going, however. AndrAIa takes a window seat and will speak with anyone who looks her way with casual friendliness, although she might take a moment to double-tap her icon and whisper Reboot just to be sure it won't do a thing.

Since it obviously doesn't, she'll try to strike up a conversation or two. Which can be answered, unless someone cares to call her out on the weird attempt at Rebooting herself. ]

You're new to this system as well, right? What did you think of those powerpoints?

[ Information gathering is definitely a thing she'd like to be doing, and so AndrAIa's been allowing herself to be shepherded towards rides and attractions, though she refused to go up in the ferris wheel. Way too slow and far too locked down for her tastes; she didn't like to not have an exit. A funhouse is a lot more open-ended, even if it's a little too game-like for comfort. It wasn't as though she was going to relax in these new circumstances, separated from her companions.

The walk doesn't bug her, and she may drift into a group, although the first sighting of a spectral figure has AndrAIa freezing and once again reaching for the length of metal at her leg - though she doesn't extend the trident. The howling is harsh to her sensitive hearing, and it's when things go dark that she does pull the trident into her hand, extending the points and fighting back for all she's worth -

Only to have things go back to happy snowland when the lights go on. ]

What in the net - ? [ She's getting the hell out of dodge, for sure, but she doesn't quite put the trident away so she's just...toting that around as she looks around, tense in comparison to her earlier easygoing smiles. ]

[ The santabot cannot possibly say anything to induce AndrAIa to go and sit on his lap, but she does watch from a little ways away, her arms crossed and eyebrows raised. ]

[ AndrAIa can be found just generally checking out the park, usually seeming to be fairly friendly and curious if a tad cautious. So if none of the other prompts work, feel free to meet the game sprite poking around booths or purchasing a snow cone, idly fiddling with the starfish in her hair. ]

[ makoto's day takes a conspicuous high dive from bizarre to borderline-irredeemable when he finds himself stranded at the apex of a rapidly darkening ferris wheel. in any case, it was the culmination of slow-burning paranoia that eventually won him over. the powerpoint was hardly comprehensible in premise alone, the bus ride was extortion coaxed in the shape (not presence) of good intentions, and the carnival was festooned in seasonal psychopathy a good six months ahead (or behind) of schedule. by all respects, it was more than enough time for makoto to develop a latent fear complex and compulsively pinch at his wrists in protracted intervals, as if deliverance only came in the form of pins and needles, but it's never that easy to ferret out an escape, really.

so when the bulb lights embedded in the cubicle fizzle out around him, so does the rest of his already flatlining calm as the ride grinds to a precariously uneven halt. a splinter-deep silence shortly ensues as makoto nervously laughs into the encroaching dimness, wiping his palms against an incidentally scaly seat, and is someone breathing down his neck?!?!?! ]

Wait, no, no, no, this can't be happening ... !

[ tears.

in a move that surprises absolutely no one, makoto startles, scrabbling at the now-defunct seat belt in kneejerk horror. fighting a losing war with his mutinying panic, makoto ends up lurching into the adjacent window mere inches away from the other passenger with his face as an impromptu springboard. invariably, he yelps — abruptly crumpling on the ground with a hand clamped vise-tight around his nose in a desultory effort to staunch the fast-ebbing blood. ]

Aaaah, I'm really s-sorry! Are you alright?

[ and now it looks like makoto's been personally victimized by a glass pane instead of his general inability to not go ballistic when anxiety got the better of him. clutching at his nose with a slew of hitching apologies thick on his breath, he finds his footing on one side of the compartment but makes a point to continue giving the seat a gimlet eye. it's vital that he sticks as far as humanly possible to the door in case he needs to make a last-ditch escape, like, plummeting to his death from a gigantic snowflake or something. ]

... Did you hear that?!

phase ii.

[ as it turns out, makoto's not particularly fond of psychological horror, either.

after the ferris wheel incident, he's all but vibrating out of his skin restraining the impulse to cry like the weenie he is because a guy can only take so much. belatedly, he did attempt chickening out at the theme park exit for a good five seconds prior to being turned away by robotic snowmen, so it wasn't as if he wouldn't be making it through the rest of the night for lack of trying.

stuck in a public venue with half-aborted dissent still crawling up his throat, he takes the only conceivable option and decides to give one of the rides another go.

but impenitent coward that he is, makoto's been waffling at the funhouse for the past ten minutes straight mentally convincing himself that the insidiously hyperrealistic reindeer affixed to the portico won't murder him and leave his body in an unmarked grave the moment he turns away. while the snowflake ride might've had a decisive role in his current emotional upset, to be honest, it's nothing he doesn't already do to himself. his chance arrives in the form of a fellow patron loitering nearby. with all the social gravitas of a bull in a china shop, makoto ventures forward, ostensibly dispelling his distress to meekly smile at his companion. ]

Were you thinking of heading in there, too? If it's alright with you, we could go in together.

[ He picked a fairly good person to gravitate to - or at least AndrAIa will give Makoto a friendly smile. And she is pretty good at fighting things, though she won't end up being able to do much about mysterious mirror monsters that don't even have the decency to stick around and be fought.

For now, though, just the friendly smile as she crosses her arms. ]

I actually was...and I wouldn't mind the company. I haven't exactly managed to track down anyone I know, so far. [ And she won't be having luck there. But hey, at least she has things in common with a swimmer? Sort of...? Being basically a merperson and enjoying water counts as something in common, doesn't it... ]

Nico di Angelo | Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus | OTA

[When Nico firsts arrives, if he's honest... a small part of him really really wants to try out the rides. He's never really been to an amusement park before (at least one where he didn't have to fight some monster or another and could actually enjoy the rides) but he's also not stupid. He doesn't trust this place at all. So for awhile, he just wanders around the park, taking note of the people around him and watching out for anyone who looks like they might be in trouble.

But then he starts hearing things about the rides... and while he knows it's probably not the best idea, he decides to give them a try to see if he can be of some help to figure out what's going on here because he's pretty sure this is not your typical run of the mill amusement park.]

PHASE I

[Nico's seen enough places from up high that the ferris wheel isn't all that interesting to him. The slow pace it goes at doesn't help either. He looks out the window with arms crossed and a little bored sigh, although he's still on alert for anything that might happen. He had hoped to be able to go by himself, but he's not the only one who was shoved in along side him. Nico's given them a few glances but hasn't said much to them so far.

When the windows darken, he's positive that is not supposed to happen. Sitting up straighter and now on full alert, he rests one hand on the hilt of his sword. He doesn't draw it yet though because there's not really a lot of room to swing it in here and he doesn't want to hurt anyone.

Then the weird breathing starts.]

... Do you hear that?

PHASE II

[To say that Nico's nervous after the ferris wheel is... accurate. Try as he might, he can't figure out what was happening. Was it a monster? Some trick of the Mists? Did they even have the Mists here? He wasn't sure. There were too many questions and not enough answers, but he wasn't going to get any of them answered by sitting around and doing nothing, so he tries the fun house next.

He would not be impressed with all the childish Christmas decorations if it was a normal funhouse, but he's just waiting for something to happen and stays on guard. And when something does happen, Nico ducks and covers himself as best he can to avoid the shattering glass, then yanks his sword out and slashes back at whatever is attacking him but it's like there's nothing there.

When it's all over, he exits in more of a hurry than he went in. He's been through Tartarus itself so there's not a lot that outright terrifies him anymore but he is definitely unnerved. He looks around to see if anyone else who looks like they just had something weird happen to them is nearby, walking up to them cautiously when he does.]

Hey. Are you alright...?

[For the rest of the day: As for the rollercoaster and the other ride, after the first two? Nico decides to bypass them for now, not trusting that he'd be able to defend himself on whatever might happen on a fast moving ride. He'll stick with just asking people things, helping anyone who looks like they need it, and trying to find anyone that looks familiar.]

While Nico might be nonchalant, Anna watched in wonder as they got higher than anyone else! Just as she was about to say something to him, that's when she noticed the darken windows. Was that suppose to happen?

Probably not.

Phase IV

[Seeing as the entire place looked like that pointless park in Altamira, Yuan hadn't felt much motivation to go on the rides. Somehow he had ended up on this one, however. Maybe it was just so he could complain later in an informed fashion.

The sharp change in its movements quickly catches his attention, so the change in scenery is surprising and impossible to ignore. It certainly appeared like he was in space. And there, in front of his, were his own horribly twisted worlds, a comet fixed directly above them. Then suddenly Derris-Kharlan faded and the two worlds split as though they were finally one again but that was totally moot given the emerging circumstances.]

DAMMIT!

[The spider is avoided (or maybe it wasn't, hard to tell with him), but as the ride grinds to a halt and the visions fade, others on the ride or nearby might note just how irritated he looks.]

Arrival

[...What the hell is this place supposed to be?

Mizael just stands there and stares for a while after getting ushered off the bus, feeling incredibly lost and frustrated. He'd only gone along with that stupid bus ride because he thought there might be something worthwhile at the end of it. But unless this ridiculous looking place is some sort of weird training ground (and he very much doubts that), it just looks like a massive waste of time.

Never mind that he doesn't really know what he'd rather being doing right now. What he should be doing (figuring out where to go from here because it looks like he's going to be stuck as a human for a while) isn't anything he wants to do, and much of what he wants to do (sulk and mourn) isn't very helpful either..

Although he can think of one thing he does not want to do. Mizael glares at the robot that handed him his tickets, the robot that's still there and has moved on to pestering him for a hug--and it's finally gotten annoying enough that he can't just ignore it.]

Shut up!

[He throws out a hand to shoot out a wave of energy and the stupid robot goes flying. It didn't really make him feel better, but at least it would be quiet now.]


Phase II

[Even after a short walk to look around, Mizael has no interest in anything this place has to offer. He only ended up wandering through this house of horrors by mistake, and then made the bigger mistake of not leaving immediately. Maybe he just wanted to see if he could stick it out. He was a Barian Emperor; he wasn't about to be cowed by a stupid human fun-house.

So it isn't long before he ends up staggering back out again, one hand covering an ear and the other clutched against his chest. He definitely did not expect to be attacked, or that it could actually hurt him. Not that it was able to hurt him much, and the pain is already wearing off, but still. There wasn't much that could do that.

(And he is not keen on finding out what else in this stupid place has a surprise like that.)]

Only a few minutes in to her arrival, though, and there's already a man shouting and a robot comes flying her way. There was enough warning that she manages to dodge it by backflipping out of the way... and now it's smoking on the ground. She looks up at the culprit with irritation.]
