The Gifts that Keeps on Giving ((You)) Nightmares

It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy.

Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! (Or try and sneak into the rides -- then face the wrath of the snowman robots and their snowman firearms :D)

PHASE I

[ xxxx ] Do you like ferris wheels? This is an enchanting one where you get to ride around in a giant snowflake at a very limited speed. The wheel will turn excruciatingly slow before stopping abruptly, leaving you trapped at the very top. We hope you're not afraid of heights because you're going to be in there for a while! The windows on the snowflake will rapidly darken leaving you and your fellow riders trapped in the darkness. At that moment, you will feel something warm breathing down your neck and along the back of your ear. As you reach over, you'll feel like the chair underneath you is made of snakeskin, and a hissing sound will intensify as the "chair" squirms and as the breathing gets louder and hotter. Scrabble at the doors, fight your way out! Will you escape or not? Probably not, but the experience will last only a good five minutes before the lights come back on and before the ferris wheel starts moving again. The chair will appear as normal, and there will be no one else inside except any fellow riders who came with you.

PHASE II

[ xxxx ] If the ferris wheel didn't "do it" for you, then perhaps a fun house will? If you're a fan, that is! This Christmas-themed funhouse features a wonderful walk through a snowy forest convered in singing reindeer. The more you walk through, the more you will notice things like within the distorted mirrors, there will briefly appear strange specters. You will also hear a bunch of howling in the background, and while you may think that you're safe since they're trapped behind a mirror, you are very wrong. The lights will go out once more, and you will hear the mirrors shatter all around and feel yourself being grabbed and hurled to the ground. Whatever is coming for you is something you can't see, but it's advancing fast with impressive strength to hurl you back once more. You will feel pain erupt through your body before an engineer will appear to get the lights back on. Once they're back on, the reindeer will be happily singing, and all the mirrors will appear as they were before -unbroken.

PHASE III

[ xxxx ] After those interesting adventures, another option would be to simply visit the rocking santacoaster, a large, sprawling roller coaster that reaches 150 mph. You will be strapped into a sled and be shot through the tracks where you can scream and cry all you want except once you reach the tunnel, everything will come to a sudden stop (whiplash pending). You and the other riders will be in there for a few minutes, surrounded by a dozen santas as they start to fly out from the tunnel walls, carrying swords and swooping down to take a swipe at you. You better duck or be prepared to be cut up by their blades. The rollercoaster will abruptly resume, and when you reach the end, you might notice some bleeding, a little bit of hair missing, or some clothes shred up. If you ask the snowman robots about it, they will just shrug and claim they don't know what you're talking about. Please go enjoy a snowcone on the house!

PHASE IV

[ xxxx ] The Christmas whirl will be your last stop for the evening! This is a ride that goes round and round and round while tilting. Everyone will be strapped into it while standing up and forced to hold on as it spins, and somewhere in the midst of the spinning, the ride will suddenly malfunction. Yes, big surprise there! But it won't stop spinning. It will just be a rockier ride, and you will seemingly enter a new space where you will be among the stars and seeing planets all around you. Your own home planet will be amongst them before it breaks open like an egg and out crawls a friendly visitor. If you get bit by it, you will spend the rest of the day and night experiencing an array of possible symptoms, including: a voracious appetite, a fear of light, the urge to 'mate' with anyone who smells especially good, heightened senses, the ability to climb on all kinds of surfaces, irritability and crankiness... (( you don't have to experience them all. you can pick and choose which one you like. ))

BONUS

[ whyo'clock ] What's that jingling you hear in the background? Why, it's Santa Clause! Coming here all the way from the North Pole. The park will stop, and all the snowman robots will gather in the square, ushering along as many people as possible. Santa-Bot X-3 will be seated on his chair to welcome all visitors to sit on his metaphorical lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. He will then give them a nicely wrapped present and tell them that it's exactly what they asked for, but they can't open it until they get home. For those who can't wait and choose to open it quickly, they will get some nice treats from Mundus Caelestis. But beware! Those who do take this gift home will experience a weird after-effect as the lovely red and white toy will come to life on its own and hop out of the box that evening to try and violently electrocute the owner. The other one is completely harmless.

[Rei grimaces all the same and looks down at the…well…she knows what it is, a deep blush beginning to color her features. Slowly she reaches down and picks it up gingerly, twisting the off switch and holding it back out to him in a manner that suggests she’d rather not touch it.]

It’s…something that’s used for a woman’s self-pleasure. [She hopes that’s enough to make it clear, and why it’s not something that she really wants to hold onto. And it also gets gears turning in the back of her mind about the gift she’d been given and not opened. Was it the same?] And it sounds like you were given it by that robot pretending to be Santa Claus. Is that right?

Ah. No. [She waves a hand to dismiss the apology.] It’s not that. I just…where I’m from we don’t have robots that small. Or robots that are really more advanced than arms and legs that work in factories. I’m not worried about him, just a little surprised.

[She sighs audibly, offering the stranger a somewhat weak smile. The wariness, at least, is gone and in it’s place is full on fascination as she watches Haro move.]

I’m guessing that I’ve got a lot to get used to around this place. Robots and super-computers and…coding and the like most of all.

Well, we should get going. I don't know how far we are from the exit, but I think leaving is probably the safest bet before we end up being something's lunch.

[It sounds like a joke, and maybe Pharos remembered to put his sassy pants on today. Which is fine with him, he's a kid and it seems like a little kid thing to say. So Yosuke will gladly start to lead the three of them out, Susano-o floating right behind them. He remembers the weird specters in the mirrors before, and starts to key in on ones that he might catch a little movement in. No howling yet, though.]

Hey, Pharos, keep your eyes peeled on those mirrors. We saw those things before they attacked, so if something moves, let me know.

You got it! I mean, sometimes you can do really complicated things with these, but I'm not too good at the hard stuff. I'm glad you're catching on so quickly.

[And he really means that, without any trace of sarcasm in his voice.]

[He tilts his device so that it shows the eyes and mouth upright.]

You’re probably right. I hadn’t even thought about that. CERES probably doesn’t even really know the meaning behind Christmas. [Then again, Rei’s pretty sure she doesn’t either, given her Catholic schooling and the conflicting ideas her own faith throws at her.]

Are you from a world that has Christmas, though? I hadn’t even considered there being places that wouldn’t…but we are in space. And from different realities or something.

You’re right, it would be.

[She agrees completely, and while she misses his dismissive gesture, she catches the flippant attitude. She could sense things other people couldn’t, after all, and that was as good as light in many ways. Better in others.]

A blackout, you think?

So, this is just Consumer-driven tripe wrapped around a supposed holiday? That's good to know.

[She looks up at Han with a frown.]

I don't think anyone likes that robot. Seriously.

[That reaction is a bit off in Rei’s estimation, but she smiles good-naturedly, even apologetically. She hadn’t meant to startle anyone, after all. He just happened to be there, near the trashcan as she was having her debate with herself.]

Fair enough. I’m honestly doubting it could possibly be anything I’d really even want, but…you know, trusting anything given to me by a santa robot is probably a bad idea.

[She does hesitate though, staring down at the package. Curiosity is a hard thing to put aside for someone with her inquisitive mind.]

[Rei isn’t quite shaking that badly, but her entire body is flush against his as she tries to keep Yosuke under her. That’s just what a soldier would do, protect the civilian until she could fight and kill the aggressor, and apologize for the burn scars later. But when she finally gets the transformation crystal out of her pocket, she notices the change in the spiritual pressure in the car. The lights flicker back on, and she looks up, eyes darting to and fro in an understandably wary manner.

And when she’s certain that the spirit is gone, she heaves a long, heavy sigh and looks down at Yosuke. He looked so…pathetic, under her, his face all screwed up in fear. What a weakling, and nevermind that her heart was still hammering in her chest. And the sounds he was making were just…pitiable. The closeness was almost enough to make her angry…but then, rationally…she couldn’t fault him, she knew better than that. She’d jumped on him, or been knocked on him.

Not that she’d ever admit that it was anything other than being hit. Ever.

Slowly, she releases her hold on him and tries to get up, but he’s still clinging…]

You…can let go now.

[ have a girl nearby eating some sort of festival treat. like, rudolph the red donut or jingle bell fried dough. actually that last one. yes. she's sucking sugar off her thumb as she watches elcia talk to the reindeer and after a moment, decides to speak up. ]

Why are you talking to the robot? [ a beat ] Also, why are you covered in blood?

[ this is the beginning of... something. ]

[ malia hasn't really gone on any rides yet, totally suspicious of everything that's going on. instead she's been loitering around, eating food, and watching everything else. she's gotten a bit more used to the whole "approach a stranger and talk to them" style of life here so when she hears trucy hollering, she does that exactly. ]

Are people supposed to know... whatever it is you are? Magician?

[ malia has not hit that milestone yet in her pop culture education, nope. ]

[ GUESS WHO DID NOT WANT TO GO ON THE FERRIS WHEEL? this girl. she was just passing by, on her way to get one of those tasty dough treats at one of the food stands when she sort of got... shoved and pushed and suddenly, here she is on the ferris wheel.

it's really the worst crime and malia's feeling pretty huffy as they go up and up and up and she... slowly loses the scent of fried dough. seriously, cerealia? she looks up at maribelle's words and with a very flat expression, responds. since she's apparently looking for one, right? obviously or why would she... be speaking... ]

"Uncommon amusements"? What's that supposed to mean?

Ah...

[He doesn't remember? Did he forget? Is this like when people came back to Holly Heights and didn't remember anybody?

That was probably an obvious moment of hesitation, but Yue soldiers on, still smiling.]

Um, we met once before. You helped me learn to make drinks.

[It's gone too far, now, to deny that he is sick at all. He keeps up appearances at home as much as possible, not wanting Tetsu to have more to worry about, desperate to chase the fear from Hijikata's eyes... but he knows it's not going to last. He can tell from the constant fevers, and from the way Yamazaki looks at him when he thinks he's not paying attention.

But here there's apparently no need for anyone to be worrying about him anymore, and no one he really cares about to worry, so trying to cover it up after he's covered a stranger in blood and phlegm might not be too important. Especially since said stranger, while tense, happily doesn't seem like the type who will fuss over him.]

Seems like there's a lot to learn about this place. It's not exactly anything like home. [He lets out a small laugh, before tilting his head slightly, studying the stranger's expression. As much as he'd like the subject to leave anything disease-related as soon as possible, he's also never been good at letting go of things once they've sparked his interest.] You recognized it, didn't you? This kind of disease...?

[ Nope.jpg, Jaune still gets flung by another robot, and once again he pushes himself to his feet as he focuses on reaching the cart. In fact, he’s charging full-force now, running past the other enemies and towards a Santa Bot that actually made it to the cart. He rugby tackles it, only he uses his shield instead of his shoulders to knock it off their ride. The force is strong enough to do the job since he had a decent run-up.]

Haa.. haa…That does it, I’m adding theme parks to the list of places you'll never see me at...

[ He looks back at Sousei to check how he’s doing. ~~Or maybe he just wants sempai's approval.~~ ]

[ it's probably ghosts. anyway malia's just been sitting here, eating a funnel cake, and being kind of unfazed by the whole thing because eh, cerealia. when it stops, all she does is look up, furrow her brow and... eat more cake. ]

Is it?

[ oh but then it's going all dark. huh. ]

It's probably broken.

[ SUPER helpful this girl ]

[Wait what. He was kidding about the Persona thing, there's no way it can be an actual Persona.

Shinji freezes, stares at Yosuke with wide eyes and a stunned expression.(Yeah, that definitely means he just said 'persona' before.) How hadn't they found this guy before? Or does this open up the possibility of other persona users not in Japan? It's not like any of them had ever really had an opportunity to explore other countries, after all.

If nothing else, Mitsuru needs to hear about this. First things first though:]

How do you have a persona though? Most people shouldn't have 'em.

Um... Yeah, sure! [He says sheepishly as he's pulled outside and stops to catch his breath.] They've got to be interesting to look over.

[It's clear that Nyx is still an unfamiliar topic to him, one he likely won't be able to elaborate on if asked.]

[His eyes widen a bit in surprise.

I see. I'm sorry that you had to experience something like this before. Were those worlds... restored, in any way?

[Well if he was trying to impress her, he's done so. Her eyes widen, and she takes a long breath. There's immense spiritual strength in the weapon, she can see that as plain as day.]

Where...did you get something like that! I've never seen a sword like that in my life.

[A half truth, honestly, the Holy Blade of the Silver Millennium is such a weapon but...]

A couple weeks ago, shit started flying around tryin' to kill people. Mops, tree branches, lamps. Lasted a few days, but it was annoying as hell.

she's dealt with weiss' clinging because she was eating but she's done now and wants to wipe her hands on some napkins. except she can't get her arm free because of weiss. why is this happening. ]

[ she's just going to shove weiss really hard now to get her off. werecoyote strength, yo! and then after that, she's going to dig in her pocket for a napkin. ]

[He's a little nervous. It's not like he's shared this information with really anyone at all back in Inaba. But this guy...is he a friend? Or foe? Either way, he's not in the dark, it's clear now.]
