//event011.EXE The Gifts that Keeps on Giving ((You)) Nightmares It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy. Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! //SCENARIOS.EXE PHASE I [ xxxx ] Do you like ferris wheels? This is an enchanting one where you get to ride around in a giant snowflake at a very limited speed. The wheel will turn excruciatingly slow before stopping abruptly, leaving you trapped at the very top. We hope you're not afraid of heights because you're going to be in there for a while! The windows on the snowflake will rapidly darken leaving you and your fellow riders trapped in the darkness. At that moment, you will feel something warm breathing down your neck and along the back of your ear. As you reach over, you'll feel like the chair underneath you is made of snakeskin, and a hissing sound will intensify as the "chair" squirms and as the breathing gets louder and hotter. Scrabble at the doors, fight your way out! Will you escape or not? Probably not, but the experience will last only a good five minutes before the lights come back on and before the ferris wheel starts moving again. The chair will appear as normal, and there will be no one else inside except any fellow riders who came with you. PHASE II [ xxxx ] If the ferris wheel didn't "do it" for you, then perhaps a fun house will? If you're a fan, that is! This Christmas-themed funhouse features a wonderful walk through a snowy forest convered in singing reindeer. The more you walk through, the more you will notice things like within the distorted mirrors, there will briefly appear strange specters. You will also hear a bunch of howling in the background, and while you may think that you're safe since they're trapped behind a mirror, you are very wrong. The lights will go out once more, and you will hear the mirrors shatter all around and feel yourself being grabbed and hurled to the ground. Whatever is coming for you is something you can't see, but it's advancing fast with impressive strength to hurl you back once more. You will feel pain erupt through your body before an engineer will appear to get the lights back on. Once they're back on, the reindeer will be happily singing, and all the mirrors will appear as they were before -unbroken. PHASE III [ xxxx ] After those interesting adventures, another option would be to simply visit the rocking santacoaster, a large, sprawling roller coaster that reaches 150 mph. You will be strapped into a sled and be shot through the tracks where you can scream and cry all you want except once you reach the tunnel, everything will come to a sudden stop (whiplash pending). You and the other riders will be in there for a few minutes, surrounded by a dozen santas as they start to fly out from the tunnel walls, carrying swords and swooping down to take a swipe at you. You better duck or be prepared to be cut up by their blades. The rollercoaster will abruptly resume, and when you reach the end, you might notice some bleeding, a little bit of hair missing, or some clothes shred up. If you ask the snowman robots about it, they will just shrug and claim they don't know what you're talking about. Please go enjoy a snowcone on the house! PHASE IV [ xxxx ] The Christmas whirl will be your last stop for the evening! This is a ride that goes round and round and round while tilting. Everyone will be strapped into it while standing up and forced to hold on as it spins, and somewhere in the midst of the spinning, the ride will suddenly malfunction. Yes, big surprise there! But it won't stop spinning. It will just be a rockier ride, and you will seemingly enter a new space where you will be among the stars and seeing planets all around you. Your own home planet will be amongst them before it breaks open like an egg and out crawls a friendly visitor. If you get bit by it, you will spend the rest of the day and night experiencing an array of possible symptoms, including: a voracious appetite, a fear of light, the urge to 'mate' with anyone who smells especially good, heightened senses, the ability to climb on all kinds of surfaces, irritability and crankiness... (( you don't have to experience them all. you can pick and choose which one you like. )) BONUS [ whyo'clock ] What's that jingling you hear in the background? Why, it's Santa Clause! Coming here all the way from the North Pole. The park will stop, and all the snowman robots will gather in the square, ushering along as many people as possible. Santa-Bot X-3 will be seated on his chair to welcome all visitors to sit on his metaphorical lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. He will then give them a nicely wrapped present and tell them that it's exactly what they asked for, but they can't open it until they get home. For those who can't wait and choose to open it quickly, they will get some nice treats from Mundus Caelestis. But beware! Those who do take this gift home will experience a weird after-effect as the lovely red and white toy will come to life on its own and hop out of the box that evening to try and violently electrocute the owner. The other one is completely harmless. [ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

PRE-PHASE: even robots deserve some love?

[ as one of the many new arrivals coming in, miyamura comes and goes as he's shepherded to. he does a great job of blending in, to the point of almost being invisible, really...

at least up until the moment that snowman bot starts trying to wave its weird metallic stick-arms are you. in moments of crisis like this, there truly isn't time to think about things — sometimes, you just gotta do.

even if that means hopping in the way and scooping that snowman bot up into his arms and swinging them away from you, crying: ]

Go now while I've got it! I'll hold it back for you!!

[ sometimes, you get the hero you need, and not the hero you deserve. ]

PHASE II: house of horrors

[ A: if you happened to enter the funhouse with miyamura, you'll be treated to his girlish screaming the moment the lights go out. actually, that's a lie, he would have started screaming the momemnt one of those weird mouth-faces appeared in a mirror, likely grabbed for you in his fear, and cowered behind you (regardless if you were actually any bigger than him) and pathetically asked if it's time to go home yet.

however, once things start getting violent, the screaming has stopped. instead you'll hear a firmer tone from him, sharp shouts of your name (if he knows your name) or other attempts to contact you and make sure you're alright.

B: when the lights finally come back on, he'll look a bit ragged, his glasses askew, and a bit of blood streaming down the side of his face. ]

...I think they mislabeled this ride.

[Just like Miyamura, Anna was new here and had no idea what was going on with this place. As she wandered around, she figured that the most she looked around, the more she'll learn! It shouldn't be too hard to find out what's going on in a festival! In fact, maybe she could even have fun with this and relax for a little while!

As she was about to march further into the festival, she couldn't help but notice a certain person doing...something to that robot. As she saw the robot trying to get people's attention, she could see someone else trying to do something else. Should she look into it?

Who are we kidding? Of course she will]

Hey, hey! What's going on?

[ no, anna, no. all that yelling and flailing was supposed to get you to go away, to safety, not to come closer...!

the snowman bot, upon seeing a new arrival, seems only more determined to get as many hugs as it can get. (to be fair, anna would probably give much more comfortable hugs than miyamura...) ]

—ah? [ for a second, miyamura is distracted by her sudden presence, but once the bot starts to squirm some more in his arms, he tightens his grip and steels himself. ]

Go quickly! I think it might want two hugs!

[ he says it as if hugs meant something terrible, tbh... ]

[Don't blame her, she had no idea what's going on! In fact, it was only attracted her more toward it!]

Well, if it only needed a hug, you don't need to hug it that way! I'm fine with it!

[ ..........HER HERO. Even if he's not apparently doing all that...well...does he plan to hug it forever? Trucy's pleased to not have to hug the frankly somewhat creepy snowmen, but even so. ]

[ he hadn't anticipated the intended victim to actually stick around, so he's caught off guard for a few seconds, blinking at trucy while the robot in his arms tries to flail its stick-arms around in an effort to break away from him. ]

You really think that'll work...?

[ hang on, who's the hero around here?!

trucy is. trucy is totally the hero around here.

with a look of solemn determination, she gives her a sharp nod. ]

Let's do it, Miss Tophat!

[ he'll be the robin to your batman...! ]

[ Because she can't just "save" him without saying the magic words and dramatically pointing her (prop) magic wand. But after she says the words, there's an explosion of glitter and smoke.

She's going to need to restock on that stuff by the end of the night... ]

This way, Mr. Glasses! Let's make a break for it!

[ And run into the park she guesses since they really seem to not want them to leave the park just yet, but hey. ]

Phase II B

[ Except Gareki shouldn't be talking. After falling and being dragged around a couple of times, his clothes are dirty and there's a bleeding cut on his own face. ]

Too much of a thrill for you, huh?

[ Despite his words, he shares the same sentiment. Gareki just wanted to act tough.

This attraction is far from being a "fun house"... and he desperately wanted to find the exit. ]

[ to that, miyamura can only give a weak, light laugh. a stark difference from the serious expression he'd had on his face just a few seconds ago, the instant the light had turned back on. with the laugh goes the rest of the tension in his shoulders, and he seems to deflate a bit, though he doesn't look particularly tired. ]

My idea of a fun house is one with a flat screen TV.

[ he's a simple man with simple needs.

glancing up, he nods a bit towards gareki's injury. ]

Are you okay?

So it's actually a pretty big shock when shit hits the fan and Miyamura actually doesn't seem like he's going to die immediately?! Of course, Kaoru doesn't seem to be faring very well, either... The shouts are met with a somewhat panicked-sounding:]

I'm— I'm fine! Where are you—?

[miyamura]

[ in the dark, there are sudden sounds of a rustle, but they're quickly followed by: ]

Stay there — I'm coming towards you!

[ firm and short, and within seconds kaoru will feel a hand grab for him with perhaps more strength than necessary, though a moment later it softens into a more gentle touch.

the owner of the hand speaks up a moment later, from a fairly respectable distance away, despite the hold. ]

Are you okay?

[ Ugh. An idiot who thinks he can play hero... He knows too many people like that, so he's not that surprised when such a scene presents itself before him. It's a good thing that this isn't anything serious.

Anyway, rather than running as told, he shouts at both parties— ]

Quit making a big deal out of nothing, the two of you!!

[ Not in a mood for dealing with stupidity, Yoon approaches the two and just kicks the robot off the other boy. ]

[miyamura]

[ —ah...

miyamura stands in shock as the robot goes tumbling out of his arms, spiraling into the air and crashing towards the ground. a moment ago, he'd been convinced the robot meant some harm, but now he's staring at the lump of metal with a certain solemnity in his eyes... ]

Good-bye, Mr. Robot... It was nice knowing you.

[Just wandering around.. trying to avoid unpleasant situations after already experiencing the ferris wheel and one of those robots before. But of course another robot has to come over and try to hug him but wait! What's this? Someone taking the hug for him?!

Tears spring to Souda's eyes as he watches the guy hug the robot away, and he's touched at his words.]

Y-you'd risk your life for a stranger like me..?! [Calm down Souda he's not going to die...]

OR IS HE? WE DON'T KNOW, WHO KNOWS IF THIS DASTARDLY ROBOT HAS SCHEMES IN ITS TINY COMPUTERCHIP BRAIN OF HIS or something. miyamura had certainly treated the situation as if it were dire, and having someone respond accordingly (hell, with even more urgency) only further encourages this.

so have a teary-eyed look back souda. if only there were a sunset backdrop to make this moment that much more Intense. ]

It's the least I could do... Please tell Ishikawa-san that he can have all my schoolbooks.

[ Is he... for real... Ryuko breaks these stupid machines on a daily basis just fine. However, she's not one to turn her nose up at a friendly stranger, in fact she's kind of fascinated by the pathetic display of selfless sacrifice. ]

[ She doesn't seem to be running, however. Instead, she's stepping closer towards him and the robot he's wrestling with. ]

"Fight" used in the loosest sense of the word. Just as he's about to simply powerwalk away from the scene and hope the robots don't pursue, poor Miyamura leaps into the fray, and...

Actually, he just sort of laughs. Sorry bro. ]

[ makoto's intimately acquainted with terror. third-rate slasher films usually induce at least one round of obtrusively shrill screaming from him, a fact that everyone on his team capitalizes on around halloween when bagging an easy prank win. withstanding nagisa's endeavors into parsing the validity of their old, supposedly haunted swim center took copious amounts of salt substitute (read: a sugar placebo in more ways than one), severe mental fortitude, and the limited span of haru's ramrod-straight back to keep himself from involuntarily flying off the handle every time the water pipes saw fit to rattle off a blithely chiming death toll. now that his brother and sister have recently expressed interest in the occult, he's living on borrowed time, much less a methodology for prayer as it is the wait for climacteric psychosis. framed as an idiom: the straw that will, inevitably, break the metaphysical camel's back.

when framed in that context, it's not strange at all that he's experiencing a weird sense of kinship with the kid sparring-slash-throttling the snowman bot in an act of misguided self-sacrifice. not even. ]

Um, it's okay? I don't think it wants to hurt anyone, it's just ... excited to see us?
