![]() It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy. Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! (Or try and sneak into the rides -- then face the wrath of the snowman robots and their snowman firearms :D)

Soujiception
no subject
or at least, it doesn't necessarily seem that way. as the man in front of him speaks, souji can feel an anxious tightening of his chest. those words—every last one of them—they hit a little too dangerously close to home.
not being alone that way since age of nine, ill with what seems to be the very same deadly disease, someone with some sort of medical background named yamazaki, can't stay in bed all day...
souji's getting a creeping, sneaking sensation that he may have a hunch what this will be. he'd already once before met someone who was acquainted with a different souji, and at one point, he'd been roommates with okita sougo. this... this could be something similar, right?]
Ah—[he'll state, thoughtfully after a moment. despite that feeling he doesn't particularly careful and a slight edge of suspicion that gleams in his eyes, he keeps his tone and expression otherwise casual.] I don't think I caught your name. We wouldn't want to be rude, especially not after making a bit of a mess.
[the mess he really hasn't cared all that much about even though he needs to sterilize the hell out of his clothes later.]
no subject
I suppose I do have some pretty dreadful manners to make up for, don't I? I wouldn't want you to think I normally go around ruining people's clothes without so much as introducing myself.
[There is a hint of laughter in his voice, as if he only just realized the absurdity of the situation, and has decided to enjoy it, such as it is. And possibly a shadow of teasing too, as if he wants to test if the other man has picked up on it too. After pausing a moment, he sinks into a polite bow, still looking somewhat amused.]
My name is Okita Souji. I don't suppose I can ask for your name in turn?
no subject
[there is a very brief moment where souji's expression sours, like a flash before settling into something else. it edges on neutrality, but isn't quite there, not exactly. he's definitely a but uneasy about it, even if it confirms a nagging suspicion he didn't really want to be true.
this is going to get confusing and troublesome in a hurry, that's for sure. they're both okita souji, but it's pretty clear that for all of their similarities, there are likely just as many differences. and with his fellow shinsengumi comrades being the ones of his world, and not of the japan this souji comes from... well, it'll be a thing, that's for. not to mention any acquaintances either of them may have from elsewhere.
what a mess, seriously.]
I imagine it'd be a bit troublesome for you to hear my name, if situations like this are new to you. [but he's not going to let it get to him. he was here first, so he's going to let himself believe he's the alpha-souji or something like that.] You see... my name is also Okita Souji.
[dun dun dunnnn.]
no subject
He sighs, suddenly feeling quite tired. Receiving hope of his friends coming there, only to be faced with the reality of whatever this>/i> is... it is probably no wonder that he's reeling a bit.]
I... don't understand. Could you help me? [There are many things he is too proud to ask for, but this isn't one of them. He smiles a little bit helplessly.] Though I think I might have to sit down for a bit.
no subject
hell, he's more than willing to prove himself, though he's sure that there are very well likely many ways in which their histories differ. there is some level of divergence already anyway.
the biggest obstacle they have is souji's own inability to articulate this in a logical way. it's all pretty over his head, even if he understands the concepts—actually explaining it always feels just plain odd. still, he complies. for a person who normally isn't very willing to help, this is one of the few situations he's willing to go above and beyond just to clear things up immediately. the sooner they're on the same page about this, the better, after all.]
You heard our captor's explanation about your world, right? Destruction aside, there are... many like that. Many worlds, and some of them are very similar—it looks as if that's the reason you and I can have the same name but be so different otherwise. [he doesn't bother to make note of the fact that his experience with the illness is his own, or that their purpose is much the same. there's one distinct thing between the two of them souji is nearly sure is different, and he doesn't really want to talk about how he's not exactly human anymore.]
no subject
He listens, though, nodding slowly, although simply to show that he's listening or because he actually understands, well, that's anyone's guess. The thing about different worlds had been hard enough to understand in the form it was presented to him, and the idea that there are different worlds which are still very much like his... it feels unnatural, somehow.]
So we share some experiences- [He will not ask about the disease, although there is a certain bitterness in realizing that his name apparently comes with its own destruction built in.] -and position in life, but we are... not the same person. I'm guessing we might have pretty different memories too - we must have, really, since I'm guessing the people around us are the same?
[He tries to imagine a different Kondou, and the thought is upsetting, and then he takes the logical step from there and his mind simply balks at the idea, refuses to go further.
Reaching the small bench next to the huge, light-decorated tree where he'd left Saizō for the ride, he bends down and fishes the pig back up in his arms, before taking a seat while he still has the dignity of having remained standing left.]
And are they here? People from your place?
no subject
[souji takes no issue in following behind. this is a conversation that needs to continue, after all, for both their sakes. all the same, he does have a pretty good understanding of his counterpart's needs, so he can't exactly deny them.
even if he wants to deny them as much as he denies his own, because the fact that there is another version of him that has to suffer that miserable, deadly illness and very well likely succumb to it too is just pitiful and wrong. he's electing to not focus on it too much though, instead keeping it settled on their verbal discussion. were all the people around them the same? souji isn't sure. the captains, he's sure are. but nobody else seemed to know of chizuru despite having done work for the shinsengumi in her disguise; she wasn't remembered by the history books that he heard about. neither had the demons or rasetsu, though. did that mean they remained a secret to everyone, or were they just oddities of his own japan? and was it the same for him? where there people the other souji knew and dealt with frequently?
there are definitely a lot of questions to be raised, but for now, all he does is answer what's presented to him. there's no use in rushing any of it out, because it won't help either of them to be hasty about this particular topic.]
Some of them are, mmm. Sano-san, Shinpachi-san, Heisuke... [there were more, but they've slowly all disappeared, and the only other is a person who has no direct ties to the shinsengumi, at least, not in any standard way, so souji omits it for now.]
no subject
He makes a soft, slightly exasperated noise and rubs his forehead. Honestly, trying to make sense of all of this is giving him a headache, and the slight fever certainly doesn't help.
There's a look of mixed relief on his face at the mention of those names. Familiar names, names that bring fondness and longing, it's true, but not names that would actively hurt to try to apply to absolute strangers.] Oh dear. Those three in a place like this... Though of course, I don't know what kind of men they are, as you know them. [A helpless little laugh, only somewhat marred by scraping lungs.]
You know it's strange, but it's almost harder for me to imagine names I know belonging to people I don't, than someone else who is me, somehow? Maybe because I don't spend that much time talking to or looking at myself, I guess. [Or maybe because the latter is a much bigger concept than he's capable of grasping properly right now. Or both.]
no subject
no matter how many similarities may be at the core, and even if their names and basic histories may be the same, souji still considers them to be two separate people, with separate lives. it would be no different for the rest of the shinsengumi, too. it's a lot to take in, even as someone who was already aware that this possibility could in fact happen. it's still a strange situation to have to deal with, and even though he appears to be taking it in stride, there's definitely something unsettling about it. so he lets out a small sigh, shifting his stance a little—he'll still stand at every given opportunity just because he's able to. as he moves, he allows his hand to rest atop the hilts of his swords that rest comfortably at his waist. there's an understanding nod... he gets it. really, he does.]
I don't think anyone would disagree that meeting someone who is you, but not, is a much stranger situation. Things like this aren't really meant to happen, after all. It's only places like this that allow it.
no subject
[He can't help but actually laugh fondly as he speaks, and in some strange way it helps to know he's talking to someone who... well, not exactly understands, but at the very least comes from the same kind of context. Souji has always been pretty terrible at understanding and relating to people outside his very narrow scope of the world, and even when he tries it's always colored heavily by his own experiences.
He suddenly wonders idly exactly how good this version of him might be, and even though he's obviously rather sicker than the other man, perhaps after he's recovered- And then he has enough self-insight to marvel at his own man, to immediately jump to the idea of sparring with someone who has his own name and parts of his life. Perhaps later he might suggest it, but it would probably seem a bit weird to just bring up.
Though if the other man is anything like him, perhaps he'd understand.]I appreciate you taking the time to tell me, you know. I suppose this could be troublesome for you as well, especially if you've got your own comrades around, but... nonetheless. You owe me nothing, so I'm grateful. [A bright, strangely childish little smile, and he seems to regain something that for a moment had been shaken away from him.] It's a pleasure to meet you, Okita-san. [And so polite, too...]
no subject
so it's not as if the opinions of others really mattered much to him anyway.
it's a strange kind of solidarity to get from a conversation like this, that's for sure. though he'd met someone who was similar to them both, he wasn't a souji, and he'd only ever heard about other versions of himself and the shinsengumi through casual conversation. that definitely makes what's happening now something of an oddity, something that raises so many questions. their similarities are as apparent as their differences in a lot of ways, but much the same, he's not exactly ready to tactlessly question things deeply or go looking for a fight. it's not the time or place for that right now, though it'll definitely be on his list of things to do.
so instead, he just pauses for a moment as the other souji speaks. he's... polite on the outside. not that souji is necessarily rude himself when it comes to meetings like this, but he definitely doesn't meet this level of formality. he shrugs his shoulders pretty casually, though it is followed by a very slight bow of his head.]
It's fine. We're in the same situation after all, and we've got quite a bit in common. [he plays it down, but it's really just one of the ways he's changed as a result of the circumstances. having to integrate new people, doing for others what was done for him when he was new an clueless to this lifestyle—it's fine with him. he'd rather inform people and get them able to fend for themselves and fighting for their cause than fielding endless questions that should have been answered on day one, anyway.
besides, isn't that what kondou would want him to do? he's trying so hard to maintain that train of thought, even after being separated for so long.]
It's a bit strange to remain so formal though, don't you think? [they're very similar, after all.]
no subject
But where can he place these other Shinsengumi on this mental map? He doesn't know them, has never fought alongside them, wouldn't even recognize the three he hasn't met if they walked past him. All he knows is their names... and, he supposes, that they fight for the same things as he does.
Isn't that enough? Of course it is.
He beams at the other man, nodding.] Even if you're not me, not really, and even if the Shinsengumi are different to us... we have worn the same uniform and fought the same kind of battles, right? I know I'd try to help out anyone like that if I could.
[His smile turns a bit more sheepish.] I guess I'm pretty formal in the way I talk to people most of the time - even people I've known for a long time. I can try to be a bit more relaxed, though, and I don't really mind people being less formal to me.
