[Archer was fully cringing at the emblem Athena made and the fact that it was pasted on his apron. Well, inwardly at least. Athena got to have her way with the things went around here since she was the one who put in the money and most of the work. That meant her lame idea of what was great ended up plastering almost anything that had the surface for it.

But for a food stall, there was a serious lack of menu. Archer, though, intentionally wanted that. Restricting himself would only be admitting that he couldn't make things that people wanted outside of said menu. Obviously, there were some restrictions because supplies of some things were exceedingly rare or impossible to find. Which meant that rich people places had to be visited for that. But here were reasonable prices for fresh cooked food.]

Before you ask, there's no menu. So just tell me what you want.

[Customer service needed a little bit of work, however. And no, Saber, you weren't getting any free food.]

[ She definitely wasn't expecting that. As much as she knew about psychology, and as much as she wanted to impart her knowledge about it to other people (which was mostly why she offered counseling services to others if they wanted and needed it, this was something else.

One thing was holding her back. ]

Are you sure? I don't mind if you joined, but... { She frowns as she curls a hand across her elbow. ] I might not be as good as mom.

Hmph... You should have more faith in yourself. I've seen the kinds of things you're capable of.

[While he'd initially made a habit of mocking the Mood Matrix as a pointless examination of feelings, she'd managed to convince him of its validity in court. She'd even blown apart his own testimony where it otherwise would have been airtight, which was no small feat.]

And while I might not have gifts like yours, I'm sure there are other things I've yet to learn.

[ It doesn't take a lot to bring Athena down. One negative thought can easily upset her, but the same can be said when trying to cheer her up. So she smiles at that comment and moves a box at the side of the stall to make an opening. ]

Well, come right in, then. Don't try to knock off the other boxes.

[Stepping carefully around the boxes! Not everyone is a klutzy courtroom magical girl like her.]

Am I right in guessing this business venture is part of your research, as well?

[Cooking does have its therapeutic aspects, after all, and she does seem so fixated on helping Archer...]

I'm actually reading about that now. This one counselor said in an article that "eating or breaking bread with someone has healing capacities beyond anything that we can really quantify." I think this will help Archer since he doesn't really value himself much. If he talked to more people and started doing things for others, then he'd have more self-esteem.

[ She pulls out a small chair for Simon, and places it across the table from her. Then she moves to sit down on where she was seated earlier. ]

He also doesn't want to be happy. But, [ She glances at Archer when she continues: ] He seems to like this a lot.

[He sits opposite her, glancing over her notes.]

He may not wish to be happy, but happiness is just as much a necessity to a person's wellbeing as eating or sleeping. We all instinctively seek it out, through one means or another... I doubt he would have agreed to your idea, if that weren't true.

[In fact, he would probably have just avoided Athena altogether. The fact he puts up with her is telling.]

I think he would have stopped talking to me if he didn't appreciate what I'm doing for him. So I want to think we're going in the right direction.

He says something, but does the other, you know? He's that kind of guy who says the opposite of what he means.

[ Which means to say he's a huge liar, but Athena wouldn't call any of her friends one. ]

No doubt he's too stubborn to admit he needs help. And perhaps he feels unworthy of it. [Speaking as one manpain to another...] Even so, it's very kind of you, to persevere with such an unwilling patient.

[She might detect a brief flicker of sadness in his heart when he goes on to say:] Metis would be proud.

[ Athena sure did hear a bit of sadness from Simon, but what gets her down again is mentioning her mother's name. And that's obvious enough as Widget's display changes from its default face to a crying one. ]

I hope so. You know her better than I did, so I'll believe in that.

[ She smiles weakly after speaking. It would be nice to talk to her mother again, she thinks. Especially now that she knows her mother's true feelings. Athena had misinterpreted everything all along. ]

I know she would be. She dedicated her knowledge to the betterment of others, and you're following in her footsteps in your own way.

[He didn't mean to bring the mood down, but he felt she might at least want to hear it. Neither of them would be sitting here discussing psychology in the first place if it weren't for her, after all.]

[ Athena cheers up pretty quickly, and she hits her palm with her fist. ]

If I ever go the wrong direction, be sure to tell me, okay? I don't want to be a disappointment to anyone.

[ Especially to her mom. ]

I doubt I'm the best judge of that, when my own career went so far off the rails, wouldn't you say?

[He grins, but then offers a more serious answer.] As for you, on the other hand... As long as you remain true to your desire to help others, I do not think you will go astray.

[ She definitely doesn't agree to Simon's first statement, but as that's a thing of the past, it might be better not to argue about it. ]

Then I guess I should help as many people. Maybe that can be my new role in the agency. [ Athena, no???? ] Speaking of which, did you get a job? If you don't have one yet, maybe we can get you one together! I'm sure the gym could use more people at the dojo.

I did. I'm employed under one Sir Hellsing, with the police. [Now he has a boss with a scary-sounding name to intimidate people with, there's no stopping him!!] A samurai pledging his blade to a knight must be unprecedented, but I am not one to question fate.

[ !!! ]

What do you do? Even Mr. Edgewortth isn't doing prosecuting.

[ And it would be weird if he was hired as a detective. Wait. Priorities. Athena has to tell him the most important thing-- ] But now that you're there, I think you should tell your the robot policemen that I'm not a kid.

[ Just so she doesn't have to beat them up again. ]

[How he can even make something as mundane as that sound dramatic, we just don't know.]

What do the robot policemen have to do with you not being a child?

[ Then again, maybe Apollo doesn't have his bike here. ]

And there were some instances where I was walking around and they thought I was a kid. [ If anything riled Athena up, this was it. ] They kept telling me to go home, and wanted to drag me back to the apartment.

... So I might have hit them once or twice.

Hmph... I would do more than hit them, if they attempted to drag me anywhere. This isn't the clink, after all.

[Actual worst new addition to the police force, right here.]

If they act up again, I'll take the matter to Sir Hellsing. Though whether she has any authority over them, or whether it resides with CERES, I couldn't say.

That's a good point. I don't think the CEO would let any of us be in charge of the robots.

Otherwise, they likely wouldn't malfunction.

And what a tragedy that would be, if he no longer had technological failure to blame for all that goes awry in this colony.

The others seem to be on the edge when it comes to the CEO because of all the glitches, but... there was this lady who said that the CEO was busy doing other things to keep us safe that one part of the code became neglected. What's more, he finally brought back some people from home, so I guess I'm not really mad at him for the strange happenings.

Hmph... [Blackquill has to concede he can't be too angry at him when he'd rescued Athena, either. Even so...]

If the robots are dangerous, they should be disabled and taken in for repairs, not left to run amok. That ought to be common sense.

Maybe they were.

[ She just sighs as she rests her cheek on her palm. ]

I hope we'll all get more information soon. [ It looked like she was going to rest and relax after letting out that sigh, but it sure doesn't seem that way anymore. ] I want to show those Flamines a thing or two!

....Athena. If we stood even the tiniest shred of a chance against the Flamines, do you think we'd be here right now?

If we all work together and get enough information, then I'm sure something can be done!

I'm not going to sit here and just let the Flamines eat more worlds just because it's a sport for them. It's disgusting!
