Case 1: Turnabout Bicyle [Open]

When: December 18th, but the exact time/date can be toggled as need be.
Where: The casino, the gym and a few places in between.
What: Examine Phoenix's life as well as his choices.
Warnings: Nothing specific?

A. The Streets (Residental/Entertainment)

[Phoenix has constantly wound up missing out on public transportation and being late for work. So, he's managed to buy himself a fairly cheap bicycle (toast not included) and today is the day he tests it. He'll be trying to bike from the residential area over to the CERES Casino in the Entertainment District in time for work. Nevermind that this is in itself is more work than he'll ever actually do in the casino.

Find him as he cycles on by, or... maybe try to give him a hand when he accidentally winds up steering into the street and has to swerve around this weird futuristic traffic.]

B. CERES Casino

[Phoenix Wright works here as a pianist. The primary indication of this is that he's usually sitting by the piano. But you'll be hard-pressed to actually hear him playing, and if you do, you may notice it doesn't sound very good at all. But rather, he seems to be spending more of his time talking up the guests and settling in for games of poker. He'll also hail down servers to get himself some grape juice.

If you try to approach him with a piano-based question, you may just get this as your response:]

Sorry, I don't play requests.

C. CERES Gym

[You may also find him winding down with some exercise at the gym. He's changed out of his blue suit and into his more hobo-ish get-up, with sweatpants and a sweatshirt. He will spend most of his time on the treadmill... briskly moving at it's lowest setting.]

D. Wild Card?

[Run into him somewhere around the residential district, entertainment district or shopping district (Christmas shopping is a thing!). Also to note that he's currently also acting as a talent agent for CERES CGI Productions, so he'll be keeping his eyes peeled for anyone who happens to be openly displaying some kind of interesting talent.]

[A familiar enough sort of place, Rei is no stranger to strange places like this, and she just happens to be poking around, looking for inspiration for work. CERES has her working advertising for various attractions, including this casino. So, best get cracking, right?

Well, that's the plan, until she spots Phoenix over by the pianos, and it's plain as day that her friend is...struggling...at best. So, hope you don't mind when a teenager just taking a seat beside you.]

Have you had much training in this, at all?

Training? I can't say that I have. [He says with a meek smile as he lounges near the piano, reaching for a bottle of grape juice.]

All I have is seven years of experience. [At not!playing the piano.]

[faithfulflame]

Seven years? [She frowns and looks to the instrument.]

I...hope you don't mind me saying, but that doesn't sound like seven years experience.

[bewrightback]

Are you sure? [He doesn't look offended at all; but he does like cryptic, complete with a smile.]

Experiences can be good or bad, after all.

[faithfulflame]

One generally improve with practice.

[She smiles back, but it’s not all that cynical. Just a little bit. She’s still a kid, really, even if she’s experienced some very, very unreasonable shit.]

So I've heard. [It probably doesn't help when one doesn't take lessons to begin with...]

Or sometimes, you just find ways to work with what you're stuck with.

I suppose so. Everyone has things they just have to do, certainly.

[She turns to look at the piano, rolling up her sleeves.]

Do you mind if I play a song?

[bewrightback]

It might confuse the regulars... [...to hear piano music that could actually be good.]

...But you know what? Go for it. [He stands up from the piano bench to let her have a go.]

[faithfulflame]

[And with permission to play, Rei starts up (from memory) one of her favorite songs. She's particular about movies, but Casablanca was one that'd always left an impression on her. Phoenix may or may not recognize it, but she doesn't mind, she'll just play on through...]

[It's uncertain if he's seen Casablance exactly, but he does seem to have heard the song before somehow. He smiles and nods along a little as she plays.]

Now there's a classic.

[Rei nods cheerily and pauses.]

It's one of my favorites. But it's a little unhappy, I suppose. So...one more.

[The next tune is considerably shorter, more meta and happier.]

[And now he listens to this one too- it's less familiar to him, but pleasant.]

You really are good at this.

[faithfulflame]

[She lets her hands drop into her lap, done, and smiles brightly.]

You think so? I studied it for a long time. And I've played a few concerts.

[bewrightback]

[Phoenix gives an impressed whistle.]

And it shows! You could probably handle a real piano job if you wanted... not that this particular one is the best atmosphere to go to everyday.

[faithfulflame]

Well, it...probably doesn't pay as well as the one I took.

[A shrug.]

But it's nice to play, every now and again.

[bewrightback]

What job did you take, anyway? I can't remember if I asked.

It can be refreshing to tickle the old ivory every now and then...! [He muses to himself as if he actually plays the damn thing.]

[faithfulflame]

Art director, actually.

[She gestures around.]

For advertising. That's why I'm even in a Casino.

[bewrightback]

And here I thought you swung by to make some shady deals with the regulars. [He says that quite full of sarcasm.]

It does sound like a neat job - definitely the kind that makes bucks.

[faithfulflame]

That's me, a real gangster.

[Shrrruuuuuugggg]

It makes more than I thought it'd make. Not...that money is really all that important. I bet this pays well enough.
