![]() It's morning when the lights go out completely. Not a single one remains on except the glow of the device and whatever flashlights anyone bothered to stock up on. However, a single hologram in the Shopping District broadcasts along a billboard for a Very Important Announcement. After that, you hear a song so tender and beautiful that it must have been composed by angels at the dawn of time. "Baby, you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed… " When you go outside to investigate, a friendly clown will be inside a stolen(?) ice cream truck, looking to get all your attention before he talks through the speaker on the truck.

[ bayonetta finally breaks the encumbering silence, after an extended period of observing the girl. she wanted to make sure, before making any sort of detectable movements, that the girl wasn't under the influence of whatever manner of snake oil they were trying to peddle.
approaching the girl, hand on one hip, bayonetta smiles. ]
Don't worry, you weren't the only child foolish enough to lose their wits. Perhaps you've all learned a bit about self control — consider it a liquid aesop.

[ Mary looks at the cuts on her hands, eyebrows furrowed. Her anger... the last time she's felt something like that was when she left the Misfits, but even then it wasn't so intense. Her body reeks of exhaustion and not an ounce of satisfaction knowing that the helplessness she once felt again caused that outburst of hers. The emptiness within those monitors reflected her own internalized anger and sadness; her eyes reflected back at her, showing her true self within them, but even then she couldn't pull her away from the anger that torqued around her heart.
That's what matters most: she didn't kill anyone and she didn't die. She lived this time... The feeling of that hollow camp ground permeates around her, enclosing her in a time capsule where she's forced to be reminded of the same things over and over again.
She brings herself to her knees, unable to look at Bayonetta. Her voice is soothing enough for right now. ]
It's... it's over then?

[ probably a rhetorical question. while bayonetta would take this all in stride regardless, she still feels lucky that she mostly managed to avoid the clamor and chaos of the past two days. she saw the creatures, she saw people become deranged from strange liquids, she connected at least some of the patterns.. she was fortunate enough (or maybe unfortunate enough) to have enough experience to detect these things.
of course, this was only the first awful thing that had happened here while she'd been here. surely, if things were to continue this way, she would get just as weary of it as everyone else. even a witch has her limits.
bayonetta suspects both she and this young girl could use a soothing bath. ]
Come, child. You can't stay here any longer. A lady like you cannot be seen like this. It just won't do at all. [ bayonetta bends to her knees, and, in a show of camaraderie, or at least pity, she extends a hand. ] My name is Bayonetta, or Cereza. Whichever you prefer.

Cereza... [ The name sticks to her easier than Bayonetta does. It reminds her of the fantastical books she read as a kid with moon goddesses and a world only imagination can conjure, but now stands before her in all of its beauty. There's a sense of an assured mystery there; one that reminds her of someone she hasn't even thought about since she got to that camp: Jem.
For the rivalry to extend that long and her to not think of that life in the short amount of time she's been away strikes her as something odd and makes her a little sad too.
Mary slips her hand into hers, grateful for the gesture. She needs a bit of help rising to her feet, but she seems able to hold her own. ] I—I'm Mary.

I suspect this isn't the end of the games our captors have planned for us.

Her head aches at all she has to think about, all she has to consider, but knowing that it's the end (for now) and how she still bleeds like a human being helps her go along with the suggestion. Wherever she goes, Mary will silently follow. ]
It's not. The antidote... the robots, all of this. I thought they wanted us to help them...?

[ as they come closer and closer to the apartment complex, bayonetta glances over her shoulder, then turns to the girl. ]
This won't be the last time something like this happens. I can only imagine it will get worse — maybe too much for even myself to handle. You have to be strong, my dear. Balling up in a corner isn't going to keep your pulse beating.

Her silence the rest of the way is not uncomfortable. On the contrary, it's the most comfortable she's been the past few days and she's glad that there doesn't need to be elaborate responses for someone who knows what's going on. Mary looks up at the complex and back to her with a faint smile on her face. ]
I learned that the hard way, but it... it's not gonna happen again. I didn't know what to do so I... [ She lowers her head in contemplation. She thinks of Craig, of Kimber and Roxy, her band, even Clash. All of them are gone and she's the only one left. She shakes her head. ] A Misfit causes trouble. Not runs away from it.

Tell me, [ bayonetta turns on her heel to face Mary, head on. ] how much do you know of combat?

[ She lapses into silence again, a contemplative look is on her face. The bigger cuts on her hands throb and she runs her fingertips over them. They feel rougher than her lightly calloused palms, made less soft by years of training on acoustic guitar. ]
Guess it couldn't hurt to be better though. I don't wanna have to use it, but... just in case.

bayonetta makes a motion to scan into the apartment complex. ] Those hands need some tender love, it seems. There must be antiseptic somewhere in this roach inn.
no subject
It was the same way back home too. ]
Um, usually I just use hydrogen peroxide. [ She offers a small smile. ] I like it because it work on a lotta different things, so if you've got some...

bayonetta begins to shuffle through some cabinets, hoping to find some amenities for public usage. or even janitorial usage. she didn't really care. eventually, she found a clear liquid, labeled 'skin disinfectant'. conveniently, some rags are nearby.. she may have stumbled upon some kind of first aid area. ] Hm. This should do the trick, I suppose.
[ she pours a liberal amount onto the rag, and extends it to Mary. ]

Her hands reach out, palms facing upward. Most of the cuts are along the edges, but there are some in the middle of her hands as well. They no longer bleed as the wounds have finally closed enough for them to become dark red symbols written across her skin. Her fingers curl a bit like she's offering herself to an altar; she looks up at her with furrowed brows. ]
I really appreciate this. [ Her voice is hushed and raspy as she finds it hard to say more than just that. ]
