![]() It's morning when the lights go out completely. Not a single one remains on except the glow of the device and whatever flashlights anyone bothered to stock up on. However, a single hologram in the Shopping District broadcasts along a billboard for a Very Important Announcement. After that, you hear a song so tender and beautiful that it must have been composed by angels at the dawn of time. "Baby, you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed… " When you go outside to investigate, a friendly clown will be inside a stolen(?) ice cream truck, looking to get all your attention before he talks through the speaker on the truck.

Welcome to CEREALIA's fourth official event. For your convenience, we have compiled an OOC post explaining the event in greater detail. Feel free to ask questions there if you have anymore lingering concerns or inquiries. |

Her hand falls from her face and too her side, blinking at Ludger. It takes some time for her to process his words. ]
There's a choice this time. [ Her words don't make sense aloud, but in her head they're clearer than ever. ] They don't have to kill if they don't want to. I... I don't want to either.
no subject
And you won't have to. Just... stay away from people you can't trust. This thing can't last forever. At most, maybe a few days.
[ CERES should have this shut down by then, assuming they aren't going along with it. but something tells me that isn't the case - the company has little to gain from them killing each other, not to mention how damning that initial message was towards them. ]

[ Her voice is tired and she slumps onto her knees. Some of the bits of screen dig into her skin, but they don't threaten to break it. ]
It doesn't matter wether you trust them or not. There's still— [ Her hand rests across her forehead, hair covering her face. She's too tired to do anything, to even say anything more about this. A lead weight presses against her back, creating tension between her shoulder blades and shoots up to a sharp pain in her head. Her next words come out as a mutter: ]
I just wanna go to sleep.

[ there are other pressing things he needs to attend too... but sticking around here for a while really is just as good as wandering around elsewhere at this point. if nothing else, mary really does look like she needs it. ]
Ah... though I guess that doesn't do you much good unless you trust me.
[ which, given the rather bizarre circumstances, he can't really blame you for deciding against. ]

[ She's saying it as a truth, not as a means to convince him or herself. He might not be Naoi or Jason, but she would rather it be him than a random stranger. She saw him in a state that was far different than his usual self and she willingly helped him; to her, that kind of trust during vulnerability means more than enough. Her lantern will be safe with him, she knows this even now, even after she's found it hard to be with people she feels comfortable with.
She trusted Kimber in a short time too.
Mary has to think for half a minute as she tries to process the rest of her words so she can get them out before she falls face first into the floor. ]
I do trust you... You're not like those spirits. So I wouldn't mind i—if you do.

he's definitely worried about elle... but just wandering around like he's done so far hasn't really done much good finding her. he'll just have to trust in her ability to look after herself for now, then find her once this mess begins to settle down. for now, there's at least someone right in front of him who needs his help. ]
We should find somewhere a little more secluded, and then you can get a little rest. You really do look like you need it.
[ granted, at this point, who doesn't? ]

I don't know if I can— [ Her body is hunched over the counter, head buried in her arms. Her voice is muffled and tired. She takes a few more seconds to catch her breath and stands up straight. Mary hates feeling helpless, she hates being helpless, and she isn't going to expect him to carry her around everywhere. There's enough energy for her to make it to a spot to rest, she knows that she just has to find it.
She thinks of the days on tour, the way she feels after an intense concert, and how she manages to pull through even those in an exhausted state. Mary thinks of the energy the Misfits pull through with, reminding her that all she has to do is walk and fall asleep. ]
Just give me a minute... I—I need to catch my breath.

It's alright. Take as much time as you need.
[ at least at present, there don't seem to be any immediate threats to either of them... he's been lucky in that regard so far, strange attackers aside. ]
You must have really had it rough so far.

[ She groans. She always prided herself on keeping an eye on her drinks at parties and not getting mixed up with anything too strong, but she thinks the only way this is even happening in the first place is because of the soda she had earlier. She blames herself for it more than anything. ]
But I— I think it's wearing off now and... [ She manages to push herself away from the counter, reaching out to wrap her arm around his as a means to steady herself. A pang inside of her reminds her of when she used to walk beside her brother just like this. The memory feels hazy, almost like it's unreal — like it's a dream that softly wakes her up in the middle of the night. ] ...I did use up a lotta energy. Smashin' all this stuff.

[ though if that were the case, the damage would probably be more visible. no, she doesn't look like she's been hurt, even if she definitely looks far more fatigued than she probably should be at this point. ]
Well, as long as it's wearing off, that's good. Whatever that was, I don't think it was doing good things to your head. [ a glance at all the smashed up stuff around them more or less confirms that. ] I guess there's more to worry about than just the other people out there.

Her tiredness prevails over her sadness, but it's still prevalent even through her exhaustion. She waits for him to lead the way — wherever that is. ]
No... I remember having a drink and next I know it... [ She motions feebly around the store. ] This happened. It's probably because of those clown creeps. I wish I'd smashed their faces in instead.
no subject
But a drink... do you mean that Pulse stuff? [ he figured there was something fishy about it when it had first been offered to him, so it's somewhat satisfying to find out that he was right. granted... he probably would have preferred to find out in a way that didn't involve so much property damage. ] I guess I'm not surprised that it'd have weird side effects.
no subject
[ She presses her free hand against her face and lets out a deep, harrowing sigh that comes from every part of her body. It's a sigh that's heavy with all kinds of things: exhaustion, overthinking, and annoyance. ]
Well, whatever they were trying to do with it. Somethin' tells me it didn't work the way they wanted it to. [ Very strongly: ] I don't wanna kill anyone.
no subject
[ which is... troubling in a lot of ways. he has no idea what anyone would have to gain by doing something like that, but he's not entirely surprised they'd do that either. everything about this "game" seems rigged. ]
That's good, at least. We have enough problems on our hands as is without adding another to the pile.
