That explains the fast reaction. [ Perhaps not the most inconspicuous, but a job well-done is better than a job unseen. Or something like that. It answers that unspoken question about how alone this kid might be here, and that's something of a relief. Rosinante shrugs a little half-heartedly. ]

I came out in one of the dumpsters. There wasn't much worth seeing there, but at least it was less intensive than the games. [ In the battle of garbage vs. memory-ruining ghosts, he'll always opt for the former. Who wouldn't? ]

I am not fast. [The quip comes easily. Baymax doesn't want Rosinante to have the wrong idea! And Hiro rolls his eyes and addresses the bot.] You're fast on some things, buddy.

[Looking back at the man, he peers around him looking for where he might have come out.] You're not the first person who's told me that. Most things in the colony are a little less intensive than the games…usually. There're some exceptions. [He gestures to pieces of the city that are visibly damaged.] You just missed one.

[ They do say honesty is the best policy. He's leaning towards agreeing with Hiro on that matter, though. Some... people(?) just don't realize their own potential. Such a shame.

Somewhere a few blocks back and down an alley, there's a really unfortunately-dented dumpster just trying to get its life back together. ]

So it hasn't always been like this! [ That was actually one of the things he'd been the most curious about from the get-go. The presentation mentioned living in relative comfort, but hadn't quite outlined 'relative to what'. He's been assuming that part of the ultimate game plan was leaving people to a fixer-upper. Something that was damaged before they got around to "pulling code". ]

A lot of things make more sense taking that into account. Was it just a flood?
zerotohiro: (Tough choices)

[That poor dumpster didn't even know what hit it. Hiro's eyeing said-dumpster before eyeing Rosinante again, trying to figure out the logistics here but deciding it's not worth it. He seems uninjured and more interested in things he actually knows about.]

Nah, this is all pretty recent, and it wasn't just a flood. Most of the damage came from the flood but there was a ton of crazy stuff going on...monsters in the sky, cracks in the walls of the colony, killer dolphins from what I hear? It was a pretty big mess. The water's finally clearing out and a ton of us are working on rebuilding everything. From what I heard this has never happened before either.
hasklutz: (that is upsetting dang)

[personal profile] hasklutz 2015-10-13 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ Better not to dwell on it. It's anime.

...

Of course, it's hard not to dwell on "killer dolphins" when there's no ocean to be found, so that's something for him to consider. ]

I see... [ DOES HE? Eh, yeah, mostly. It's nice to know there are bound to be some city-cleanup organizations to spend his free time on. ] I wonder what the cause was. No one in a higher position came forward with an explanation?

[ Governments love explanations. Even completely false ones that pave over the horrific truth to make them look good. ]
zerotohiro: (No kidding?)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2015-10-14 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fair point. And it's a good question because he nods slowly, trying to think of how to explain this one to a newcomer.]

Would you believe me if I said they were the physical embodiments of elements that were shaped like a cloud and a centaur? Because that's actually pretty much the story there.

[He had a hard time wrapping his head around the concept, so he wouldn't be surprised if others did, too.]
hasklutz: (oh... keikaku means plan)

[personal profile] hasklutz 2015-10-17 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Rosinante is pretty sure they didn't cover this in the introductory program. The oceans back home have their tales of the mysterious and the impossible, people with abilities even more exceptional than his own. Ships that fall from the sky. The shadows of giants with no sources. They stop a bit short of this level.

Physical embodiments of elements... shaped like a cloud and a centaur.

No. Even when he tries to process that one aspect at a time for a better understanding, it turns out there's no better understanding to be had. ]

I don't want to believe you. [ Yet he knows he can't just dismiss it out of hand. ] Are they elected officials? What did they have to say about what happened?

[ Where do they stand on the real issues, and what will he find if he ever finds a historical library? Bafflement could motivate entire armies in the right situation. ]
zerotohiro: (Enter the nerd lab)

[personal profile] zerotohiro 2015-10-21 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
No idea if you could really call them elected officials, but they were pretty mad about what happened. They weren't even really talking to us at first, they were just really mad at Vincere...the old CEO of CERES. They kept talking about things that were stolen from them and how they wanted them back. Maris was more angry than Caeli, but it's hard to imagine a cloud really being mad anyway. Maris was talking about how we'd pay for mistakes.

...then again, Caeli was talking about washing all of us away so there's that. They eventually got what they wanted though after everything.
