[He surfaces to look at her, then promptly glances away.]

You get it, but you don't get how it works?

[She turns around, dress back on again like magic. Floating over curiously, and once again forgetting about that weird, human issue he has with personal space.]

So then, what you're getting stuck on is how to actually use that knowledge when you need it. Do I have it about right?

I don't know how to willingly tap into it. Just to suppress it when it gets to a certain level.

[He moves away from her in the water a bit.]

[She drifts after him in the world's slowest pursuit.]

If you can learn where it's coming from, that should make it easier to handle at every level. As it is, it sounds like you're just containing power that you've channeled, rather than preventing yourself from channeling it in the first place.

Tell me, Darin. What did it feel like for you? When your body was overflowing with heat -- if you could trace it back to a source, where would you point?

Uuuh it was kind of hard to focus when I was punching two dozen robots with magma fists.

[He wades away from her some more.]

[She says as she folds her arms on top of his head, and rests her chin on top of those.]

As hard as it was, you're not doing that now. Try to think back, won't you? ... but don't relive the moment too hard, because I am not going through that fight again.

[He sighs and crosses his arms.]

It felt like...it was coming from my heart.

But deeper.

Like I was trying to put a cork on a well or a pit that was expanding inside of me. Deep from inside my chest.

Good. So that's the point you need to focus on.

However... [She pauses, considering.] I think you're approaching the problem from the wrong angle.

What do you mean?

Why are you trying to close it up? It's not a wound, you know. That space inside of you is still part of you -- you have to reach in and control it from there, rather than the very edge of it.

How can you be sure if you've been fighting it all this time? Maybe it's just misunderstood, and lonely, and wants someone to appreciate it for a change.

He said that his power is growing and my grip on him is waning.

He's a god.

Well...half of a god.

But seriously, the fact that I've kept him at bay this long is a freakin' miracle. I can't just say 'you work for me now.'

He managed to get himself imprisoned inside a mere human's body, didn't he? I think it's clear who's supposed to be the master around here.

You're just letting the things he say get to you, and damage your self image.

[He sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose.]

You're not getting it. I didn't imprison him. He chose to have his soul tethered to mine under his own power. His aim was to wait until my brother and I were old and strong enough, then his soul would take control and we would annihilate humanity.

We were pawns. We were literally born to be vessels for his soul and that's it.

We were means to an end.

[tetherbell]

And yet, he was kept at bay by your will alone.

[Muzét floats on past him. She drops close enough to the surface of the water that there's ripples being formed by her flying past, but she doesn't seem to be quite touching it. It looks like she's looking for something.]

If we go find you those pants you wanted so badly, will you stop being so sour about all this?

[How fast of a swimmer are you, Darin? Because she's not flying any slower to let you keep up. She floats up to a window of what appears to be a clothing shop, but...

Oh, dear. I don't believe I'm familiar with that kind of fashion. Technically speaking, though, I would say those quality as pants.

[Darin can definitely keep up, and when he looks at the 'pants' that Muzét is referencing, he turns away.]

Nope. No way. I'd rather walk around naked. I'm not shy but I'm not putting on...whatever those are.

It reminds me too much of what I had on when we met.

[Not that he wants to remember what she was wearing at the time either.]
