It’s been a few days in the jungle now and hopefully you haven’t managed to die just yet – after all, the fun’s just begun. On the seventh day of trekking the wilderness, each character who has Air in their heart will suddenly find themselves pausing in the middle of the day. Suddenly they’re able to feel the patterns of the wind in the air. A chill passes through them as a breeze will kick up. Then without warning, they’re lifted right off the ground and cast up into the sky. At least they don’t have time to be scared as they suddenly lose consciousness after floating for a few seconds. Don’t worry. It’ll get better. When they wake up, they hear the following message in a wispy way, carried along by the breeze itself –
It is not the correct time to be sleeping. You must awaken.
There is something that needs to be done.
You need to be the one to do it.

PHASE I [ day one ] Anyone here with a fear of heights? Yes? Well, that’s too bad. When air characters awaken, they’ll find themselves cast right into the mountains of Tellus. It’s rocky, the path is minimal at best and non-existent at worse, and there are screeches of something dangerous and angry calling in the distance. Caeli demonstrates his poor sense of direction once again as characters wake up and find themselves on a mountainous ledge. There is no apparent path -– except for across a dangerous ravine that dips down to the base of the mountain. There is no end in sight when one looks down, instead only pure black depths. The cloud waits on the other side, floating patiently. Caeli gives one instruction: “Jump.”
But try not to fall in, that would be a sad start to the trip. Thankfully, the distance across isn't really too far, and Caeli might give those who can't quite make the jump a little boost -- but you still have to be brave enough to make the jump or be left behind.
PHASE II [ day one ] Well, one way or another, you seemed to have made it. From there, it’s just one long hike where you’re stuck following a cloud that simply doesn’t feel like responding to your calls for attention. The hours drag on and the sun sets across the horizon as you are left climbing this mountain, no end in sight. But as you climb higher and higher, the temperature drops. The hour grows later and slowly but surely, white flecks begin to fall from the sky. Cold? Hopefully you were dressed appropriately seeing as now the thick layers of snow are building and building and building – making it harder to climb as the movement now requires trudging through three to four feet of snow. Did you want to take a break? Have fun catching hypothermia if you do!
There's definitely not much in the way of shelter, but you can try to make something out of the scant trees remaining, or create a fire. Either way, you definitely don't want to be left behind, so don't lose sight of everyone else.
PHASE III [ day two ] Whether you felt like standing guard or were fast asleep, a piercing screech will act in the place of an alarm clock. All too soon, a flight of winged creatures will descend upon the mountain travelers, looking none too friendly. Caeli descends to offer helpfully, “Griffins. They were once mine.” To which, the beasts merely emit another piercing screech before baring their claws and moving to attack the party. They are fearsome creatures and will not fall until they are killed, consistently trying to get back on their feet even when injured. If no one manages to lose an eye and the griffins are subdued, characters will find upon their fallen bodies that they have areas where tufts of fur are missing, leaving a clean injection spot. There are small machine implants at the back of their necks, beeping ominously. Each is branded with a different number identification. Caeli is nowhere to be found.
PHASE IV [ day three ] The summit of the mountain is typically considered the most beautiful place. For those who are seeking solace, the peak of this adventure is safely above the clouds and the sun is slowly rising in the distance. Acting as a moment of peace, it is truly beautiful. For those who do not rest so easy, there is more to be found near the top of the mountain. One run-down shack can be found, plated with steel and amenities found inside such as blankets and coats to fight off the snow. More worryingly, there is an operating table in the middle of the room. A white cloth drapes over it, stained with red and operating instruments resting on the edges, the gleaming metal darkened with old blood. The same tufts of feathers and fur that could be found on the griffons are scattered on the floor, claw marks digging deep into the metal of the walls. Be careful not to touch anything. If a character comes into contact with some of the blood that stains the table or the instruments, they will immediately begin to feel hints of aggression. There will be an intense need to pick fights with those around them and the feeling will not disappear until they are knocked out (or killed, but who would want that?).

Re: I
[Well he'd begun to wonder about this one anyways, but well, now wasn't the time to ask people about their normalcy status.]
I haven't. And my long jump is horrible. But well, I guess it'll be time to trust in magic and the kindness of strangers.
[A beat.]
So are you going to do it then?
[Still making no move to jump himself of course.]
no subject
[Stopping his rambling, he stares down once again.]
That's awfully deep, don't you think?
[He WILL jump, just not ...now.]
no subject
[He takes a moment to rub his arms, trying to get some feeling in them. He has a suspicion that the longer he waits the do this, the harder it is going to be to jump. Stiff muscles are only getting stiffer and less limber.]
It is very deep. I would say the chances of surviving a fall are non-existent, even for some of the less human among us.
[He swallowed, balling his fists. Well, this wouldn't be the most dangerous thing that ever happened to him. He just needed to keep telling himself that.]
But, we will probably die if we stay here. So...
[He's still not totally steeled yet.]
no subject
Taking a look down as well, Vector pulls a face and nods.]
I guess you're right. Although I think that some of them know how to fly... Anyway, I'll jump. Watch out that you don't get in my way, please.
[Not that he thinks that William will, but sometimes all it takes is a brief distraction and a jump's botched.]
Alright. Here goes! [Taking a breath, he turns and falls into a light jog away from the ravine before he swivels around and approaches it running full speed. There is no hesitation nor worry as he leaps and lands elegantly on the other side after a long moment in the air. If anything, he looks as if he could just keep going as he turns around and waves, grinning widely.]
Okay! Now it's your turn!
no subject
But now he supposes it's his turn. No pressure or anything.]
Very well. Give me a moment here.
[He walks back, thinking this through. Just how much of a running start he needs, when to jump and other such things. He also mentally readies himself to do an air spell and give himself a little boost if need be. He doesn't trust the damn cloud. Finally, after a few moments, William slaps his face, forcing himself to focus. There's nothing for it but to jump.
He then launches himself into a run, moving surprisingly fast for such a small guy. He jumps at the end end of the cliff and somehow manages it to make it quite a ways across before he feels himself start to fall. Fortunately, he knows from experience how to chant spells quickly and generates enough wind to give him a boost.
He ends up crashing on the other side, in an undignified heap.]
That... was... a horrible, horrible, experience.
[He gasps to himself, because damn.]
no subject
Are you alright? When you suddenly hit yourself you gave me a scare. That looked like it hurt.
[He doesn't comment on the obvious use of magic in this almost missed leap. William has mentioned it before and to be honest? Vector has seen enough of it even before he arrived in a place where everybody and their grandma seem to be something special, even though he hasn't used any cheating for himself.
Barian Emperors get their titles for being the most competent ones of their race, which naturally includes physical powers. While Vector considers himself more on the sly side, his agility is second to none. ...which might be the only reason none of the others has ever managed to kill him for annoying them yet. Although Mizael never stopped trying.]no subject
I am fine. That was just to brace myself. Much like a splash of cold water to the face.
[He glanced back over the ledge and shivered. That was an experience. No one can tell him he's weak any more though. it's a shame some of his school mates weren't here to see that. It's pretty impressive for a guy who pukes his guts out from running too long.]
If that's the worst of it, the rest of this trip should be fine.
[He glanced in the direction they had to go.]
It's just... a long hike.
no subject
I expect that it will get only worse from now on. Do you think that you will be fine?
no subject
I will not know until I try. And it is not like I can just say no, now is it?
[He laughed a bit.]
I suppose you have enough stamina that you will be fine though.
no subject
[He doesn't even believe that it can be that easy himself, though.]
I'm fine, I'm so used to being chased by a pack of angry dogs or worse that it's hard to really impress me with parcours anymore. [Thinking for a moment, he grimaces.] Except there's falling stones. Or scary monsters. Then I'll have a big problem too.
no subject
[Somewhere terrible, where he'd be on his own. Which is unacceptable. As far as William is concerned, misery loves company.]
Angry dogs? But well, I think unfortunately, you are going to have to face a lot of monsters here. Judging by previous experience.
[He is so very reassuring sometimes.]
no subject
That sounds like something this place really would do. Or those in charge of it, whoever tells monsters where to go.
[He hangs his shoulders and sighs.]
So it's running for my life or dying again. Yay.
no subject
[Granted, one of those things wasn't like the others and likely to be ineffective. But William was a dreamer.]
Otherwise, just find someone stronger to hide behind. I think I saw a few people here who are able to fight monsters.
[He shrugged, having little shame when it came to such things. It only became embarrassing when it was the same person over and over again.]
no subject
I doubt that any of the monsters we find will be any more open to hearing us out before trying to eat us than the ones before. Since none of those strong people are here and you said that you aren't good at running either... What are you going to do to help yourself?
no subject
He collects himself after a moment.]
I do have some magic I can use. A fireball or two. But well, I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
no subject
In any case we are easy targets if we just keep standing like this. There are answers to be found wherever this fluff is leading us.
no subject
[He begins to follow along, because it isn't like there is any other path, now a bit lost in thought.
There really isn't anyone here he can truly depend on. He's even separated from Kevin. And isn't it what he's always wanted? The chance to prove he's not just someone to protect? That he can face these sorts of challenges on his own?
But it's a bit different now that he's at this point.]
...so what do you make of the Cloud and it's friends?
1/2
[He gives him a curious glance as he skips over a bigger stone. People rarely think to ask him for his opinion on things, which is how a lot of problems for them tend to happen. Being asked directly, he is torn between saying what would suit his act best and what he really feels about them.] Oh, that's easy.
no subject
I hate them already. They're the kind of people who consider others nothing but toys.
no subject
I am not exactly fond of them either. They are not reasonable beings. Even more so than most spirits.
[He sighed, as he brushed a hand through his hair.]
They could have at least been more useful than CERES, but they could not even manage that.
no subject
Spirits are pretty easy to get, once you understand what's important to them. [Dark Mist wanted power, many of the mythological card spirits are just very protective of whoever they end up considering their human,... Stuff like that is easy to figure out.]
But I guess that's what we get for thinking that they could be relied on. After all they already lost to CERES before, and I'm not always sure that they know what they are actually doing, either.
no subject
[But the one time he had tried to ask, it had been like talking to a brick wall. Which was a strange way to describe speaking with a cloud.]
It might be that they do not know, or they are unable to articulate it. Or even unwilling. They probably do not think we have anything to offer, which is why they treat us like this.
[How annoying, to be brushed off like that.]
no subject
That said, I think it is a mistake to ignore those who seem weak to you. It might be because of the deck that I run, but I think that ignoring those you deem 'not worthy' of your attention or 'useless' can be a fatal flaw in your plans. It's always a small grain that ruins the big clockwork.
no subject
[William had never taken being ignored well. His ego didn't allow for it, and he had become accustomed to powerful beings having too much investment in him. Experiencing the opposite was a bit galling.]
The deck you run?
[Hadn't he mentioned something about a game before?]
Then hopefully they will trip up big time and allow us an opening. Even though I do believe we would gain more from a discussion as equals.
no subject
[He makes an explaining gesture that really doesn't help explain anything.]
Most people discard such monsters as useless, you know? They think that only those with really good stats everywhere are good to keep and play. That's why I want to show that that's not true and that it doesn't matter if you have a zero somewhere in your stats - you can still win!
[Laughing self-consciously, he shrugs his shoulders.]
Sorry, talking too much about things like these is sort of a common sickness where I come from. A deck is something really personal, like... like... Ah! Like imagine it like your private book full of spells that you came up with and that nobody else can recreate and use the way you do! Or like inventing your own technique at fighting, or a special set of scientific formulas nobody else can understand!
