Who: Kakyoin & OPEN!
When: IC 7/19 - 7/23 (event time)
Where: School, park, marketplace, apartments.
What: Ayyy it's the event bandwagon.
Rating/Warning: Probably some talk of violence, whoops.
A. all that's missing is toast in mouth
[ he feels like he's losing his mind.
he's so sure he's seeing familiar faces -- faces of people that he knows aren't here, faces that he misses dearly -- but the moment he tries to chase them down, they vanish. the first time, he dismisses it as a trick his eyes are playing on him. so the second time, he ignores it. but as it happens a third, a fourth time, it grows harder and harder to pretend nothing's happening.
as he's making his way through the school's hallways, kakyoin's footsteps are steady and clipped. but they stop abruptly when he spots a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eyes -- the trailing length of a long, black coat, or the shape of a built figure in a conspicuous hat -- and this time, he chases after it without thinking.
if someone's playing tricks on him, he's determined to hunt them down, and he sprints full-tilt down the hallway towards where he's so sure he saw that familiar figure, rounding the corner without losing any speed.
so it'll probably be a pretty hard impact if he runs into anyone! ]
B. don't mind the mess
[ so when brute-force sprinting after those hallucinations proves to be fruitless, kakyoin goes for a different tactic.
around the school campus or the park, kakyoin can be found quietly standing in a clearing, staring very intensely at nothing in particular.
maybe it'd be best to ignore the weirdo staring at the trees? or you could talk to him and see what's so interesting about that patch of grass over there?
but people with any sort of supernatural or spiritual ability will be able to see that kakyoin's not just staring at the ground. all around him, strange, green tendrils spread out like a cobweb, covering the ground around him in a fifty, sixty-meter radius. the tendrils shift against the ground, translucent and glowing faintly, and touch lightly at the shoes of anyone who wanders too close to them. linger too long, and they might gently loop around your ankle.
so, yeah. feel free to call him out on that creepy little detail. ]
C. no context theater time
[ he eventually gives up on trying to chase those hallucinations but that still leaves him with the matter of the weird, injured dove that's been following him around. it's a little distressing, being followed by such a battered-looking animal, but he hadn't been able to pick it up or carry it, and helping it out in any way didn't seem possible.
which means he just has to let it totter after him while he tries to go about his daily life.
periodically, he stops and sits down somewhere to let the bird catch up to him. and when he thinks no one's looking, he sometimes makes another attempt to pick it up, even if he knows it probably won't work -- quickly though, so no one can see him trying to pick up a handful of empty air. (he can totally be seen making this embarrassing attempt.)
kakyoin can be found around the school, park, marketplace and apartments, and anyone unfortunate enough to walk near him -- deliberately or not -- will probably end up bumping into the sad, injured spirit-dove hobbling after him. whoops.
C1. please choose this option to get a bizarre memory! it might still be kinda violent and/or horrific, but it'll come with little context and probably be kind of strange. please feel free to request anything specific from his canon, but otherwise these will be chosen randomly!
C2. please choose this option to get a more distressing and/or serious memory! may or may not be violent, may or may not be sad. it's a mystery! please feel free to request anything specific from his canon, but otherwise these will be chosen randomly!
D. wild card
[ please feel free to start with anything else! ]

c1. gimme that bizarre. confuse this old man
[When he comes up a little too close behind Kakyoin and slips his foot against one of that sad little dove's tail-feathers, being flung into a memory that is not his again, he is still remarkably good at balancing those bags. He might stumble forward a few steps, though, and bump into Kakyoin's back. Hope you're not too nauseous, dude!]
I'LL DO MY BEST
as for chibi, well --
-- the memory starts fairly mundane. just the inside of a ferris wheel car, where someone's seated on the opposite seat. just your regular guy, with totally regular hair. he has an ice cream cone, which he's eating with great gusto.
and also there's a dead dog on the seat next to him, its skull split open.
you're so dense! kakyoin shouts, visibly frustrated as he whams his fist against the car's metal wall.
then a higher-pitched voice interjects, crackling with static: lalli-ho! you really are a numbskull! the dog's corpse starts twitching, spurting liberal fountains of blood as the voice continues, i'm just saying you're pretty dumb, polnareff!
and then a megaphone bursts from the dog's corpse, letting out an unpleasant squeal.
lalli-ho! you've entered the dream of a grim reaper!
the megaphone is pushed out of the dog's body by a giant, leering eyeball.
and also that ice cream cone is now a cone full of worms.
-- the vertigo's just bad enough that it sets off a domino effect when chibi stumbles into him. whatever he was going to say just comes out as a truncated groan, and down he goes -- unconsciously reaching out to grab at chibi's clothes on the way down. oops. ]
no subject
[There's too much stuffed into his head - the dead dog, the megaphone coming from the dead dog, the eyeball coming out of the dead dog, the cone full of worms. The incredibly ripped guy on the seat in front of him. The... Everything.]
[He does have to mutter, more to himself:] Well, I will never get on a carnival ride again, after seeing that. [And then belatedly, as his senses come back to him, he realizes they fell in a pile. The other guy was grabbing at his clothes, too; his cloak is off his shoulders. Oh, Goddess, why this.]
[With a sheepish laugh, as he begins to extract himself from where Kakyoin grabbed his clothes:] Ah... I am sorry about this. It seems to be happening a lot, lately. [He extends a hand once he's almost to his feet - need help?]
no subject
No. It's not -- that wasn't a carnival ride. It was an attack. From the baby.
[ yeaaaahh that's not making much sense. kakyoin gives up, shaking his head to clear his thoughts before looking up at his victim (?).
and then he realizes he's practically yanking chibi's clothes off.
he lets go immediately, cheeks coloring unsubtly. ]
-- sorry. I didn't mean to.
[ it comes out pretty stiff and flustered, and he's avoiding meeting chibi's gaze as he accepts the offered helping hand. ]
C1 - Bizarre is Mabel's middle name
Although, it was just a tiny bit strange to just be randomly living in other people's memory. And this was one of them!
As Mabel just went about her day like usual, she didn't happen to see where she was going. Hope you like a tiny girl bumping into you, Kakyoin, because she already did!]
oh god i tried my best to find something that was age-appropriate for her ... !
except mabel perfectly slips under his line of sight and walks right through his dove. kakyoin barely gets the chance to give a start, managing to look down and spot mabel right before that vertigo takes over and makes his knees buckle.
-- hope you like chase scenes, mabel, because this is one!
to be precise, kakyoin and three other guys -- all ridiculously buff -- and, for whatever reason, a small girl are being chased. by a car.
the eldest one, a huge, bearded man bellows, get between the boulders!
but the moment they slip into a ravine, the car rumbles right up to the entrance. you can't escape me! someone seems to be shouting from inside the car. stop running like cockroaches!
the car's front bumper contorts, shaping itself into steel pincers that claw away at the ravine, and the hubcaps sprout spikes, the wheels angling themselves so those spikes can ram into the stone walls.
OH NO! he's forcing himself through!
he's like an idiot who can't solve a simple puzzle ring and is taking it out on us!
keep running!
the chase continue amidst distressed (if puzzling) shouts, punctuated only by a brief moment when the girl trips. she lies there, throwing a small tantrum until she has to be rescued, and they all scale low cliff to escape the car.
so of course, the car comes rumbling up to the foot of the cliff.
whereupon it sprouts spikes all around the outside of its wheels.
and vertically drives up the cliff wall to come after them --
kakyoin falls to one knee, his vision still swimming, but does his best to play it off and pretend he just did it to catch mabel and keep her from stumbling further. ]
-- ah. You should watch where you're going.
[ so smooth. his hand's on her shoulder, and he reflexively grips at her for a moment as he wills his head to stop spinning, before he lets go. ]
Are you alright?
Gotta protect the cinnamon bun!
While she tried her best to keep up with the scene before her, the only thing she knew was that something bad must have happened. If they were being cahsed, he must have running away from some kind of monster right? Although, why was there a little girl there too?
She wasn't sure what was going on! Without the context of whatever was happening, Mabel's imagination was running wild!
However, before she was say anything further, she found herself staring at the buff boy once more. As she started blinking in midair, she just nervously laughed]
Oh yeah, don't worry, I'm totally fine! What about you? Looks like you just suddenly found yourself in the middle of an action movie eh?
no subject
An action movie.
[ he stiffly repeats that phrase before figuring -- that's actually probably way easier to play along with, rather than explaining the truth. ]
Ah -- yes. That's right.
I ... was involved in an action movie.
[ then again, maybe that's just the vertigo talking. ]
no subject
Does that mean you're an actor?! Oh my gosh, I don't believe it! You're not super famous back in your world, are you?
[Despite her excitement, Mabel couldn't help but be worried. As Mabel looked at the taller boy, she wondered if he was okay. She wasn't exactly sure what happened but after seeing that?
Who wouldn't be feeling dizzy anyway?]
...Well...maybe you can tell me when you're feeling better?
no subject
Oh. Not at all. I was virtually unknown.
[ should he be looking sad as he says that? it's not really that he's a bad liar, but it's still a little hard thinking straight, and his balance finally gives way despite his valiant attempts at looking fine.
there's a muffled grunt as he ends up sitting ungracefully on the ground, looking vaguely embarrassed and miffed by it. ]
-- sorry, I guess I need a few moments, after all.
no subject
Hollywood should totally be raining Oscars down you on!
[Although, her shouts were probably not a good thing given how much Kakyokin was on the verge of passing out. The moment that he landed straight on the ground, she couldn't help but give a slight wince]
But seriously though, you sure you're going to be okay? That really looked like a nasty fall though.
C1. Her life is already pretty bizarre-- I think she can take it!
Felicia bustled through the crowded market, a paper bag of goods precariously balanced in her hands as she rushed down the stone sidewalks wth her dangerous looking heels. She wanted to have dinner ready at a proper time this time, and she had more cookies to bake so she could thank some people for their help in recent days. Singularly focused as she was, she didn't even notice the slender young man she brushed passed on her way home-- at least, until her shoe clipped the curb and she went tumbling down on the sidewalk, into the hobbling little bird that she couldn't even see.]
i'm so sorry felicia you deserve so much better
he looks over, and it's like he can see felicia falling in slow-motion, a whole cascade of items spilling out of her arms and into the air. kakyoin makes a desperate attempt to catch her before she hits the ground, but he's juuuuuust a little too slow. down she goes, right on top of the dove.
-- there's six cups of coffee on the table. six cheap white mugs of coffee on a steel table, in the cramped metal interior of a submarine. around the table are five people. (all of them are impractically buff.) as if on cue, the most intimidating-looking guy of the bunch -- a man clad all in back, wearing a strange cap -- frowns and speaks up.
hey, kakyoin. why're there six cups? there's five of us.
an elderly gentleman picks up one of the cups. kakyoin sounds puzzled as he mutters,
that's odd. i thought i grabbed five.
the coffee cup in the older man's hand suddenly quivers. and just as everyone turns to look, it explodes into a horrific-looking little gremlin, which further sprouts a blade from its arm to lop the man's hand off at the wrist.
there's a unified shout of surprise, but before anyone can react differently, the gremlin slices the fingers off that detached hand, then launches them like bullets into the man's throat.
maybe aggressive, terrifying, transforming coffee mugs are just a thing, where he's from.
-- the vertigo hits while kakyoin's still in the follow-through in his lunge to catch felicia, and it immediately knocks him off-balance. which means he lands heavily on one knee. right on top of some fallen groceries. hope you aren't going to miss that carton of eggs, felicia. ]
ACTUALLY THIS IS TAME FOR SDC
Kyaaaaaaaa!!
[Omg what is this that she's seeing? Is this the Company playing weird tricks on her and OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT MAN'S HAND???
With a startled yelp Felicia goes and tries to bury her face into the nearest safe looking thing so she could recollect herself-- at the moment, that place just happens to be Kakyoin's chest.
...Besides being in a mess of raw eggs, I hope you don't mind having a terribly confused maid in your lap.]
I COULDN'T SUBJECT FELICIA TO WORSE
it's one thing trying to be gentlemanly and courteous if a girl stumbles and he's able to catch her. but it's absolutely another thing when there's a girl actively burying her face in his (admittedly quite broad) chest. also, there's raw egg all over his slacks.
kakyoin freezes up in his discomfort for a long moment before very gingerly touching felicia's shoulder. ]
-- it's okay. [ he's not even sure why he's trying to comfort her, to be honest?! whatever will get her to calm down. ] Please don't cry.
I know~
[She looked up at the young man, a touch embarrassed that he was her savior once again, and buried her face once more in his chest to hide her own embarrassment.]
Why did a cup attack a person's hand? I've never heard of a monster like that!
no subject
... the cup. [ so, she's seen exactly what he's seen, by the sounds of it -- that flashback to an older fight, which much seem incredibly odd without context. kakyoin frowns as he tries to think of an explanation which might sound even marginally believable. ] That was ... a sort of doll. Controlled from a distance, that could mask itself as different objects.
[ look it's not entirely untrue. ]
no subject
That must be some weird magic if that's a doll, [She said, not entirely sure that she was believing what she was hearing.] What's more important is whether that gentleman is okay-- that looked like it must have been some serious trouble, even if it was a doll!
a;
Being the 5'2" tiny, flimsy teen that he is, Leon's really not prepared for Kakyoin coming around that corner at full speed--and he hits the ground hard, science book tumbling elsewhere.
He's...going to need a moment, that probably took a chunk off of his HP, he has nothing in the way of defense.]
no subject
the impact is enough to make kakyoin stumble, at least, and it takes him a moment to realize he's practically run someone over. and while he does briefly glance down the hallway, it only takes him a moment to realize that the hallucination he was chasing is long gone; there's no point in chasing it any more. ]
I'm terribly sorry. I was following -- thought I saw someone I recognized.
[ he swipes up the fallen science book (now featuring a bunch of crumpled pages, ah) before kneeling at leon's side, worriedly hover-handing a bit. ]
Are you alright?
[ and then he winces, because leon doesn't look exactly okay; probably should have asked that differently. ]
no subject
But even so, he tries.... he pushes himself up immediately, even as he lists a little to one side, shaking his head firmly a few times as if to try to rid himself of the ringing in his ears. He's trying to be fierce and angry, but...really, he just kind of looks like a rattled angry kitten, so it's not very effective like this.]
You-- watch where you're going!
[Ugh........ his poor head.]
no subject
I'm sorry. You're right.
[ the mangled book's tucked under one arm, the other hover-handing near leon's shoulder. he'd help leon get up, except leon looks like he might actually bite if touched without warning. ]
It may be best not to move too much, if you hit your head. Can I help you get to the nurse's office?
no subject
[He seems almost more offended by the thought that he wouldn't be than anything else, immediately scowling up at Kakyoin (well, as best he can when his vision is not entirely set), and it's honestly a good thing Kakyoin doesn't touch him, because he'd probably bite, yeah.]
Just get out of my way this time so I can continue on my way.
[He is definitely not going to make it five steps before he falls over.]
b; we can finagle memories if you want but HIEROPHAAANT
Wait, she knows these tentacles (tendrils). ]
Hierophant...?
NAY, this is perfect, just like mary always is
the tendril glows brighter for a moment, then the nearby strands also converge upon it, weaving together to form hierophant's torso. ]
Mary?
[ kakyoin's voice comes through, a little tinny and flat. he's never tried using his stand to talk to a non-stand user before, and he's not even sure she'll be able to hear it. but hey, it's worth a shot. ]
no subject
Kakyoin-san...?
[ STILL SO TENTATIVE. ]
no subject
[ he sounds a little surprised, a little pleased. hierophant gives a small nod. ]
Yes, it's me. Hierophant doesn't talk. [ doesn't? or can't? who knows, stands are such a mystery. hierophant touches at the weird mask cover its mouth. ] But I can talk through him.
no subject
Um, but-- what are you doing?
no subject
I guess it's a little lonely. There were times, long ago, when I wished he could talk.
Ah, but I was looking for someone, with Hierophant's help.
no subject
Looking for someone? Who is it?
c2 LET'S GET SOME SRS UP IN HERE
Bad enough it felt like he was going through some vicious sort of bug (odd bouts of dizziness and nausea, random flashbacks to things he was fairly sure didn't happen), but chasing down a fat blue penguin who was chasing down an injured fox for no good reason? That was just ridiculous. Maybe he should have just let them be (it'd be more peace for himself), but something felt like he had a responsibility for this thing somehow.
So intent on catching this mysterious blue beast, he misses Kakyoin coming in the opposite direction and slams into him, foot accidentally kicking the invisble dove
that monster!!, before stumbling back again. This wasn't shaping up to be his day, was it?]CONGRATS YOU GET THE MOST SRS
but kakyoin doesn't get long to bask in that feeling, because he immediately realizes, if puu's running around like this, that probably means yusuke's not far behind.
ah.
and he looks up just in time for yusuke to come barreling right into him. such poise, such grace.
-- it's a dark alley, and there's two bodies on the ground. there's no blood, which hints that these two people might just be unconscious, but that's probably not much consolation.
because kakyoin's not alone with those bodies. the opening to the alleyway's blocked by a huge figure, backlit by the cold moonlight. blonde hair, pale skin, the physique of a grecian statue. everything about the figure is arresting, absolutely breathtaking, but not in a good way -- the air feels heavy with an almost tangible sense of dread. it's suffocating.
kakyoin staggers back a step, his breaths coming in choked pants, and he makes a noise like he wants to say something but his voice is trapped in his throat.
the man blocking off the alleyway smiles, golden eyes narrowing.
then in the blink of an eye, he's behind kakyoin. his voice croons from far too close by:
there's no need to be so afraid, kakyoin.
it's gentle and chiding. like a man dealing with a pet rodent, something harmless and pathetic.
let's be friends.
there's only one more thing before the memory ends: a sudden rush of movement -- of something long and twisted and organic lashing out like a whip, and the sharp gleam of a needle.
-- kakyoin jolts as he hits the ground in a messy pile, gut immediately twisting and his vision spinning. the vertigo and nausea are worse than the other times, and he knows exactly why -- even if it's just the briefest glimpse, he's had to see that same memory, too. he groans, hand pressed to his eyes. ]
You should watch where you're going.
[ a humorless drone, though his voice is rather lacking in its usual bite. he's not even going to try to pick himself up just yet. ]
oh my god DIO STRANGER DANGER....
But as the vision progressed, it was immediately obvious that this wasn't like what he had been seeing before. The ridiculously sculpted man was new, and the atmosphere was stifling in a way that was different from his other memories. The mysterious figure felt strong, stronger than the other shady characters who showed up in his mind, and the choked off fear from the person on the other end felt so much like Yusuke's that it was easy to mistake this memory for one of his own.
And suddenly, the mysterious figure is behind him, sending a jolt in his nerves, and then--
'there's no need to be so afraid, Kakyoin'
--this...
... this was Kakyoin's memory?
Before he could question it any further, the man speaks again, sending shivers up his spine, and it's so tempting to yell and scream at Kakyoin to get away, run from this shady creep-- when that sharp tendril lashes out, much too close to his face, and with a small shout, he's back in reality once more. Yusuke blinks, taking a moment to recover from what he had just seen (what WAS that?), when an abrupt thud grabs his attention and his eyes focus on the owner of the memory, prone on the ground.]
Crap! Kakyoin!!
[Yusuke flounders for a moment, his beasts forgotten, before crouching down on the floor, attempting to help him up.]
Sorry, I was just trying to keep an eye on that stupid blue thing, but-- [and his voice wavers for a moment, hesitating.]
What... what was that?
no subject
he's looking just a little peaky, and kakyoin's expression darkens at yusuke's question. ]
That ...
[ assuming yusuke saw the same thing he did, it's one of the last things he wants to explain. lips pressed together thinly, brows furrowed, he avoids yusuke's gaze as he considers what to say. ]
... you might have seen something I've experienced before.
It must have been unpleasant.
[ a low mutter as he presses his hand to his temples, trying to ignore the heavy feeling hanging in his gut. at least he didn't hit his head as he fell, and as long as he focuses, he can sort of quell the dizziness that's making it so hard to think. unpleasant flashback or not,
and then he manages processes what yusuke said, finally realizing how strange it was. kakyoin's frown deepens, and he looks at yusuke like he's suddenly sprouted an extra head. ]
Did you just call Puu 'that stupid blue thing?'
[ not that he was going to argue with 'stupid' or 'blue,' but 'thing' seemed an uncharacteristically vague way of referring to a manifestation of his own soul. ]
no subject
But then the other boy speaks, and Yusuke goes pale, the memory popping into his mind again. Oh right, that.]
That's one hell of an understatement there, pal.
Just what was--
[The look on Kakyoin's face made him stop and reconsider, however. It was obvious that the context of the memory wasn't a good one (as if the intimidating sensually posing buff man in the moonlight with weird needle-vines could be anything BUT), and he wasn't about to pry off that lid if it was painful. It did deepen the mystery of the other boy's world, though-- Kakyoin had mentioned something about Egypt and vampires in the past, but nothing really shining a light of what he had to deal with back home.
Before he could switch the subject, however, it was changed for him, and Yusuke blinked a few times in surprise.]
What did you call it? 'Puu'? What kind of dumb name is that?
[ONE YOU APPARENTLY GAVE HIM, YUSUKE.]
no subject
obviously, yusuke's curious about that flashback. not that he could be blamed for it. kakyoin's sure it's a strange and disturbing thing to witness, and perhaps yusuke does deserve at least a sparse explanation. but that can come later. more urgent is the fact that yusuke apparently doesn't recognize his own 'stand.' ]
... yes, that's his name. Puu. Rather silly, but I'm not the one that gave him that name.
[ brows furrowed, he hesitates for a moment before holding up two fingers. ]
I can answer your questions a bit later. But first, two things I want to ask you. One, whether you remember me explaining what a 'Stand' is to you. And two, whether you can see what's behind me.
[ hierophant immediately flickers into view behind him, domed eyes staring intensely at yusuke. for now, the first thing he has to do is narrow down 'what's wrong' with this situation, and figure out whether yusuke has, somehow, lost all connection with the supernatural, or if it's simply just forgotten about puu. ]
no subject
His eyebrows raise at the first part of that-- seriously, where did he get that name from?-- but the two fingers held in front of his face prevented him from asking about it. There's a frown in response to those queries, although he does jerk a little bit at the sudden appearance of Hierophant. Man, he is never going to get used to that.]
Well, yeah, I remember that much. And there's no way I'd be able to forget that shiny green friend of yours, either.
What's this all about, Kakyoin? Does this got anything to do with what I just saw?
no subject
That makes things much easier, if you still remember.
[ he's never been particularly good around animals, kakyoin gives a slight grunt of discomfort as hierophant gently deposits puu in his arms, but otherwise holds him firmly in place. ]
You explained to me that Puu is something like a Stand to you. I'm afraid I didn't pry for exact details at the moment, but the gist of it is that this 'stupid blue thing' is very important to you.
Do you see now why I was so puzzled by what you were saying?
no subject
Yusuke's brow furrows at the display, the other boy's words and actions beginning to unsettle him. It sounded crazy, especially given he's only begun to notice that blue thing a few days ago, but... at the same time, there was an unshakable sense that he might be missing something.]
But... that can't be. That thing's only showed up a few days ago, along with, well... whatever the hell that freaky banged-up fox is. I know I'd definitely remember if I had something like that flapping around my place.
Are you sure you're not the one mixing things up? Maybe our memories got... I dunno, jumbled or fused together after whatever just happened.
C2?
Instead, he wheels slowly and rhythmically down the paved street, counting off the list of things he still needs to buy. Dry goods. Some fresh vegetables, things that would be easy to cook, preferably. It's not until he's rather close that he recognizes Kakyoin- that boy from the beach- sitting on one of the street benches. Was he waiting for someone? Might as well see if he'd heard anything new since they last spoke. Johnny was fairly desperate for the distraction.]
Hey. It was... Kakyoin, yeah?
[As he pulls up to talk, he reaches to set the brake on his chair, and his fingers lightly brush the incorporeal bird.]
YEEHAW TIME TO CONFUSE THEIR TIMELINES SOME MORE
Ah, Johnny. Good afternoon.
[ there's still something just the slightest bit awkward about the way he says the name, like it's not exactly the name he wants to say, but he does greet johnny with a polite nod.
and though his gaze flickers conspicuously towards that dove hobbling around, he lets his guard down once he sees johnny's wheelchair narrowly avoid bumping into it.
and that's when johnny touches it. whoops.
-- there's the dry scrape of loafers on loose dirt as kakyoin sprints down the street. on either side are market stalls and curious onlookers, quiet mutters in a language that he doesn't understand. and in the distance, the sounds of shouting. kakyoin quickens the pace, his shoes almost slipping on the dusty ground as he rounds a corner, and his movements immediately come to a halt.
avdol's there, staring down a man dressed like a cowboy. but kakyoin's focus isn't on avdol, or on the cowboy. it's on a puddle on the ground, where avdol's back is reflected in the murky water -- avdol's back, and a sinister, bandaged figure.
there's no time to react before the bandaged figure in the reflection simply stabs avdol between the shoulderblades.
avdol's back suddenly explodes with blood, cut open by that intangible blade. then there's a blur of movement, that lightning-fast gleam of a bullet cutting through the air and striking avdol on the forehead.
as kakyoin stumbles forward, avdol topples to the ground, blood pouring from that wound in his head. ]
MY FAVORITE~
The memory was sudden and invasive and Johnny could see and smell and hear the buzz of the foreign city as they raced down the street. Nothing was familiar, nothing made sense and Johnny felt dizzy with the sensory overload. There were men in the distance, someone in a cowboy hat and another in long robes, but he wasn't looking at them, he was looking at a puddle.
A moving puddle. Or rather- there was something in the reflection that wasn't there in the real world and Johnny flinched as the creature within struck, only to find that the man he'd attacked in the reflection was actually bleeding here as well.
It's a Stand, he's sure of it. Nothing else could move like that, could have such a strange ability. But before it can register, a shot rings out and strikes the same man in the head. A gruesome end perhaps, but no more than others he's seen on this journey.
But as he nears the body, there's a glimmer of recognition. That's- It's Avdol, isn't it? The man who'd entered the race on camel-back, one of the first to fall out of the race after a nasty Gyro-related run-in with some cacti, but... was this truly how he'd met his end? And if so, how had he gotten so far from the race, to this foreign country so quickly? It had to be something from the future, some time down the line where Kakyoin was from... maybe? If it was even real at all.]
Was that-... no, what the hell was that?

even if avdol hadn't died in india, that moment -- holding avdol's still body, seeing the glistening blood that poured from his forehead wound, tracing vivid lines down his face -- was still incredibly unsettling to relive. after all, at the time, he'd been quite convinced that avdol really had been killed. the thought of losing a companion in an instant, of being unable to do anything for him, is still enough to send an uncomfortable twinge through his chest, and kakyoin swallows thickly to quell the cold anxiety rising in his throat.
avdol isn't dead, he reminds himself. avdol is still well, still as reliable as always, and is back in egypt with the others. it's still just a matter of getting back there, no matter what it takes. ]
Aah, something seems to be happening lately. I -- something's been following me. Some sort of bird, that I think only I can see. And when people touch it, I ... end up having a strange flashback. I think other people also see it.
[ he's frankly pretty glad to already be seated, and kakyoin slumps forward a bit in his seat, bracing his elbows on his knees as he rubs his fingertips at his temples to quell a headache. ]
You -- saw something, didn't you?
no subject
Yeah?
[Whatever it was, it seems to have pained the young man and Johnny studies him for a moment, mulling the thoughts over in his mind. The Avdol in Kakyoin's memory couldn't have been that much older than when he'd seen him in the race though. A relative maybe? Brother? How common was that name in his home country? Johnny hadn't a clue.]
I think we got some things to settle up. There something you haven't told me? Cuz that sure as hell looked like Avdol and I know he got injured pretty good in the race, but he was still alive last I saw him. And there's no way he'd get all the way back home in a couple a' weeks by boat.
So I figure- you're from a different time, yeah?
[Leon and a few others had been from the future already. Johnny was already starting to fill in the blanks.]
Shit- that's why you know that Joestar, Joseph, right? The one I didn't know. He's from later on, yeah?
[A flicker of excitement lit his features. Was Joseph one of his kids maybe? Unless his father decided to start over, after screwing up two sons, well, who knew? Maybe he was jumping to conclusions, but it that was true...]
Hey, do you know what happens to me? Who wins the race, do you know?
c-2!!
LET'S GO WITH A SERIOUS MEMORY.]

-- the scenery is peaceful -- a large room in a lush japanese estate, the sliding door wide open to reveal a beautiful garden and a slice of blue sky -- but there's the faint stench of blood on the air. kakyoin sits up, and when he touches a hand to his forehead, his fingertips come away wet with blood.
he looks up to where there's a huge man standing by the sliding doors. he's massive, imposing, and his expression is a stern frown even when he looks over.
why -- kakyoin hesitates. he's still a little disoriented, but he continues. why did you risk your own life to save me?
the man standing by the doorway stares for a moment, then looks away with a noncommittal shrug. who knows? i'm not sure myself.
it's said bluntly, but not unkindly. and as he looks away, kakyoin ducks his head.
his vision blurs, just a little.
-- kakyoin stumbles as his vision spins, staggering forward a half-step from more than just the impact of vietnam bumping into him. and as he presses a hand to his mouth, trying to swallow back a wave of nausea, he can't help looking a little concerned.
he keeps feeling like he's forgetting something very important. ]

What just happened? Did Kakyoin suffer? Why was he saved? The stranger said he wasn't so sure himself.
Could she even talk about and ask him?
But even so, she immediately catches him as he stumbles and looks dreadfully ill.]
Kakyoin, what was that? Are you alright?

Sorry -- that. It seems to be a recent development. [ wow, nope, words aren't coming easily just yet. a firm shake of the head before he manages to address that question more properly. ] People have been seeing my old memories. Accidentally.
[ a deep exhale before he slowly lets go of vietnam's arm, giving an apologetic duck of the head. ]
I'm fine. Just a little dizzy.
