![]() It's been a whole month without any new arrivals. Who knows why? If you ask CERES, they won't bother with any in-depth explanations. They will simply claim that none of the code out there has been responding to their recovery methods, so they had to rework a lot of their technology. However, after several weeks of grueling work, they have finally experienced success! A fresh new batch of faces is coming in, and to celebrate their arrival and the real upcoming holidays, CEO Julius Vincere has arranged for a Christmas-themed carnival for all to enjoy. Those who arrive will wake up in Cerealia and be given a long, boring explanation and powerpoint as per usual before being ushered onto a bus (there is no escape. The robots will force you onto the bus one way or another). You will be unwillingly carted to the theme park where you will be immediately assaulted by a giant array of lights followed by several rides that you can enjoy. After you disembark from the bus, one of the snowman robots will be waiting to give you tickets to the rides and show you around as part of the Grand Opening. The amusement park will remain open for the rest of the month of December so anyone can visit as they please. The first couple tickets will also be on the house for new arrivals, but the rest will have to be bought with credits, so choose wisely! (Or try and sneak into the rides -- then face the wrath of the snowman robots and their snowman firearms :D)

i don't have even a remotely appropriate icon for this. that said, it's yakuza adventure o'clock
[But also, there's the fact that she's been here for a whole month without him. And he'd gone nearly two weeks back home without her. He knows he changed a lot in that short amount of time...what happened to Peko without him? As much as he'd like to think she'd be better off, he's not sure if that's what happened. And it just makes for a whole bunch of uncertainties.]
[...triple also: he's not sure if he wants their reunion to be in an amusement park of all places. Maybe he should try calling her and have him meet her somewhere else? No...no calling her is like a wussy half step, the only thing worse would be to text her. No. This has to be done in person.]
[He gets so wrapped up in his anxious thoughts over what to do, that he manages to power walk smack into the back of the person he's looking for. He really should have been paying more attention to what was right in front of him, instead of paying attention to what might be around in the general vicinity. Also the fact that he can't see out of his right eye doesn't help things. If he's looking to his left, of course he's not going to see what's right in front of him. And that's basically exactly what happened.]
[He takes a step backwards, rubbing the side of his head where it collided with Peko's shinai and looking offended. He starts talking before he even looks to see what he ran into though, mistake #2.]
H-Hey! Watch where you're go-- [Only Kuzuryuu would attempt to blame someone else for his own incompetence and failure to look where he's going.] --ing.
[Well crap he's out of time to come up with something to say now. He also completely ruined the chance of the two of them having A Moment. You know something super meaningful and poignant, maybe even semi-romantic. Instead we get this shit: literal run-ins followed by wordless, awkward gaping. God, say something you idiot.]
...Peko.
[Okay, well that's something but that's a useless something so it's almost like he didn't say anything at all. Jesus take the wheel, Kuzuryuu obviously can't be trusted with it.]
[Additionally, Peko might notice a faint cut on his left cheek, just below his eye. It looks fairly recent, as though it happened maybe an hour or so ago, tops; so but thankfully it's no longer bleeding. He had a run in with the rollercoaster and has not gone on any rides since then. Of course, this is all assuming she's not too distracted by the eyepatch. Or just...the heir in general, really. It the bocchan. He here. Surprise, it's a Christmas Miracle or something.
not even remotely]same... same...
She'd have thought that the young master was more than distinctive enough, more than loud enough that at least someone she'd asked would know whether or not he was here. Maybe she'd been asking the wrong people? There certainly seemed to be quite a few more park-goers than she's used to seeing in the city. After speaking with Maribelle, it's clear that there are (finally!) new arrivals, among whom are several of her classmates. Why not one more...
Peko's still looking in that same way she has been since she came here, surveying the area, studying everything with a too-intense gaze and not... really thinking about what she's going to do if she does see him. It feels as if she's looked so many times that she doesn't dare get her hopes up, carefully trying to tamp down on the rising emotion every time she passes by someone who, from their conversations, seems to be new here.
She's paused at a corner between two food stalls, trying to decide if she should head left or right, when there's an impact just below her shoulder blades. In an instant, she's lunging forward and twisting around, one hand on the katana at her waist instead of the shinai at her back. She doesn't trust those hugging robots not to squeeze too hard, or try to electrocute her, or something.
Instead, she hears his voice as she's turning, her grip loosening on the hilt of her sword before she's even fully turned around. It can't be. This is far too good to be true, to have him be literally behind her. She almost doesn't hear what he's saying as her eye flick over his face, his whole body, as if just to confirm that he's really here in front of her, that this isn't some cruel joke of a hologram or a robot or worse.
Her gaze lingers just a little too long on that eyepatch -- she'd known it was coming, she'd even talked about it with others, but -- seeing it herself is something entirely different on a face she knew as well as or better than her own. And then there's the fleck of blood from a cut on his cheek that knits her brows together in concern. Honestly, it's that more than anything that convinces her that it's not an illusion. What illusion would have a recent injury? And look exactly like him, when the only picture she's had of him doesn't contain the eyepatch?
But wait, he's pausing there. Has been for a few seconds, now. She hadn't really been listening to him, which is usually a Mistake, but wait, okay, the only thing she'd really missed was her name. All the planning she'd tried to do over the last month, all the scenarios and things she'd thought about saying and things she'd rejected saying all kind of crash into the front of her mind at once, and she can't say any of them at all beyond a quiet, whispered,]
You're here...
[And with that, once she finally manages to actually open her mouth and say words, it's like the cliche dam metaphor as she surges forward, two quick steps to wrap him carefully in her arms as if he might break. Once she realizes that no, no her arms aren't going through him, her grip tightens fiercely as she steps in the rest of the way, closing the distance between them to all but wrap herself around him. She can just add this to the list of things to apologize for if he doesn't want a hug.
He could totally push her away if he wanted to. Struggle or make the fact that her hugging him was unwelcome known by any other means. Before he does, though, she has to get out a mumbled, hesitant,] I missed you.
[Understatement of the century right there. She's trying, she's really trying, but she can't stop the tears from welling up in sheer relief. She is like, five seconds away from total waterworks as she buries her nose against the top of his head. Now is the time to retreat before snotfest 2k15 starts.]
woe is us. we'll never be iconally prepared for these reunions
[Plus, that gives him some more time to think about what he actually wants to say... Because he has even less of a clue now than he did thirty seconds ago.]
[Weirdly enough though, he doesn't pull when she wraps her arms around him. He doesn't push or shove or struggle at all, really. In fact, he doesn't react at all. He doesn't even confirm that yes, he is here, good going Peko you got it. It's not until that quiet "I missed you" that he finally does something other than stand there doing his best impression of a mannequin.]
[His arms are trembling slightly as he raises them to, not so much hug Peko back as sort of vaguely wrap them around her waist and hold onto the back of her shirt. It's almost like he's worried that if he holds her too closely or too tightly, she'll turn out to be fake. Like she'll just disappear in a string of ones and zeros or something because how dare he be genuinely happy about something for once.]
I... [His voice comes out much hoarser than he intended, and if Peko were in a position where she could see his eye right now, she'd notice that it's fairly glassy already. Dammit, he's not going to cry. Especially not in a crowd full of people GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, MAN. YOU'RE FINE. Even if it's kind of a happy cry, no breakdowns allowed until you're in the safety of a private room somewhere that isn't in a crappy theme park. His fists clench a little tighter on the back of her shirt.]
...I missed you too.
[More than she'll ever know, really. Well, more than she'll ever know so long as everyone who DIDN'T die before chapter three keeps their damn mouths shut. So one of these days she could very well learn about how he basically didn't shut up about her after she died.]
never
But she's not just Junko in disguise, or something worse. It's actually her, taking deep breaths to try to fight back her own tears because they are in public, and if a hugging snowman tried to get both of them right now, she probably wouldn't be able to pull away fast enough to protect either of them.
Of course, him saying that he missed her too doesn't help with that at all. It actually makes her feel a weird combination of worse/better. If he hadn't missed her at all, that would have been... fine, at least he'd have been okay. But she'd left him alone back on the island, and even though she knows now that he was better for it... it still hurts to think that she'd failed him, in that way.
She can't quite bite back a quiet, choked sob when she tries to answer, so instead she just holds him more tightly, shaking a bit with the effort of trying not to cry. It's a weird mix of relief, happiness, and guilt prompting those tears, all triggered by those four words.
But even she knows that a crowded street corner isn't the best place to talk about the island. She doesn't loosen her grip, but she does manage to keep it together to murmur a choked-sounding,] You are hurt...
[Yeah, she'd seen the cut. The eyepatch doesn't faze her (too) much, but who did he get in a fight with already... she'll kill them if Kuzuryuu hasn't already...]
no subject
[If she's out to kill the person who decided to cut his face though, she's going to have a real time of it. Because it's really not possible to kill a roller coaster. It's not a living thing, after all.]
I'm fine, it's...nothing. [Peko of all people should know he's been through much worse than one tiny little face cut. There's a weirdly strained quality to Kuzuryuu's voice when he speaks this time that actually has little to do with emotions. It definitely sounds more like the kind of voice you get when someone bigger than you is about to crush you but you don't want to be a weenie about it so you just kind of pretend that it's not happening. Just soldier on like it ain't no thang and you can totally get all the oxygen necessary for talking into your lungs.]
[Not that he isn't still in the middle of a weird tangle of emotions that he doesn't understand and is going to have a hell of a time trying to sort out later, but the being on the verge of being smothered to death thing kind of takes precedence here. Please loosen your grip, Peko, before you break all his tiny little bones and/or suffocate him in your boobs and vice grip combined. You may or may not have cracked his back a few seconds ago when you tightened your grip.]
no subject
Her breath is still coming in quiet gasps to try to swallow her tears as much as she can, then she's lifting her head and nodding as if to try to firm her resolve. It's a couple more breaths before she manages to ask,] Would you... like to find somewhere to sit...?
[Instead of just hanging out on this corner. Preferably somewhere with their backs against a high wall so they can at least pretend to be paying attention to their surroundings.]
no subject
[But whatever, it's over and done with. He's (mostly) fine now, especially since he finally found Peko.]
Yeah... [It's with a fair bit of reluctance that he lets his hands drop from her back.] we're probably in the way, aren't we?
[Not that he...really cares about that. He just feels like he needs to say something and apparently that was the something he decided on. Incredible.]
no subject
While she's wiping at her nose, though, she's looking around, trying to find somewhere convenient to sit!! The food stalls are crowded, and though the lines for the rides have definitely... diminished... sticking near those isn't such a good idea either. There are a few benches littered around, though, and she finally spots one within view that isn't too close to any others, meaning it's less likely they'd be overheard or bothered.]
...This way, I believe.
[Though she waits for him to start walking in the direction she'd indicated first. Incredible.]
no subject
[He glances over at the bench Peko indicated. Sure is a bench, sure is isolated but not as isolated as he would truly like in this instance. Oh well.]
Hopefully we can get out of here soon and go somewhere with actual privacy. [But for now, he'll just shove his hands in his pockets and start moving towards the bench. Perhaps thanks to that back cracking earlier, he's not quite as slouchy as he normally is when he walks. Praise.]
no subject
Yes... [As he starts walking, she falls into step behind him, nodding at his words. Privacy... yes. With as much suspicion as she holds toward CERES these days, it's hard not to think that the robots are listening in to conversations.]
Hinata... told me the truth about the island already, [she says quietly, though, in case that's something he was concerned about. That's definitely something he would want privacy for, right? So if he doesn't have to worry about that, they can talk about something else.
What, she isn't sure about. But that's something! She'll wait for him to sit first before shrugging off her shinai, reflexively twisting the hilt of the katana so it doesn't get in the way as she sits beside him.]
no subject
Did he? [He honestly wasn't even thinking about that part but it's a relief all the same knowing that he doesn't have to explain all that. Especially given that he literally just went through it all himself mere hours ago. He's not sure he'd want to sit through the explanation a second time so soon, much less be the one giving it.]
[Bless you, Hajime Hinata. Provided you actually told her everything and not just the sparknotes version.]
All of it?
[He sits down, leaning forward a little with his elbows resting near his knees so that he can sort of look over at her while they're talking about...whatever it is they're going to talk about. Curse this damnable carnival.]
no subject
[She shifts slightly on the bench, a few centimeters closer so her arm and shoulder are close enough to brush against his, just seeking that little bit of contact as a physical proof that he is here.
But obviously if Hinata left anything out, she wouldn't be able to tell, so she clarifies as best she can without going into too much detail,] Enoshima's plan. He also said that we...
[And she trails off, because this bit, here, is the hardest part for her to try to rationalize. Even beyond the bit about everything being a virtual reality.] We... had been part of-- that group. Those responsible.
[SHSL Despair, something she doesn't want to put into words where just anyone can hear it. And she glances toward him, at that, gaze flicking over his face as if hoping that he'd contradict that, that maybe it's not true after all.]
no subject
He told you the important stuff then, yeah. [...wait hold on, she didn't mention...] What about the traitor?
no subject
[Hinata hadn't described her as such in so many words, but from what he did say, it was the only logical conclusion for Peko to draw. Someone who wasn't like they apparently were. But she nods, as if to say that yes, he did tell her about Nanami's role in everything.]
He did not... [she pauses, trails off, and glances toward him again for confirmation.] He told me who survived, but not... what happened between my death and -- the confrontation with Enoshima. But I do not know if that is appropriate to discuss here.
[She says her death so casually, as if it doesn't bother her at all. Just stating a fact. Which, of course, it is, but not something she's as comfortable with as she's trying to project.]
continued here!
