![]() It's morning when the lights go out completely. Not a single one remains on except the glow of the device and whatever flashlights anyone bothered to stock up on. However, a single hologram in the Shopping District broadcasts along a billboard for a Very Important Announcement. After that, you hear a song so tender and beautiful that it must have been composed by angels at the dawn of time. "Baby, you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed… " When you go outside to investigate, a friendly clown will be inside a stolen(?) ice cream truck, looking to get all your attention before he talks through the speaker on the truck.

Welcome to CEREALIA's fourth official event. For your convenience, we have compiled an OOC post explaining the event in greater detail. Feel free to ask questions there if you have anymore lingering concerns or inquiries. |

I agree. There's no way that everyone will understand this sort of thing is impossible. [Or not impossible - it might very well be true, but after his experience in camp, he's certainly not willing to risk his own life or anyone else's to find that out. He'll stick close to Mary and Jason accordingly, using the light from his own lantern to help her with her search.]
Maybe we should head to one of the bigger buildings? There would be more room to run if it gets ransacked. And— Ah, wait a second, Mary. [He cuts himself off, gesturing toward a dull glint in the trash heap - some sort of discarded metal catching the light from their necklaces.]
no subject
Huh? [ She looks over her shoulder and to where he's pointing. She clambers over some more cardboard boxes and makes her way over to the pile of trash, cautiously digging through to see what the metallic object really is. When she pulls it out, it... looks like an arm. Not just any arm, but— ]
A robot arm? [ Out of nervousness, she snorts, but she knows it'll be effective so she decides to keep it. It's better than nothing, which isn't a chance she's going to take again. Her fingers firmly grip the end as she turns back to them. There's a slight smile on her face hoping to bring shine a little light on the situation. ] Whatever works.
no subject
Yeah, I think a big place is gonna be best. Couldn't really do nothin' back at that place, but shit, here we can at least fight back.
[ Jason sighs as he looks down briefly to steel himself, because it's not something he's keen to relive, but at the very least? He's going to protect these two. He may not be a Detective here, but that lesson of wanting to save and protect people had stayed with him. ]
Got any ideas? I think there's a big mall or somethin' close by here.
no subject
The mall might work. What do you think? [Both Mary and Jason get a questioning glance. He shifts where he stands, tapping the baton against his shoulder before voicing his own opinion.]
We would just have to be careful about watching entrance and exit points and windows. Being chased to the top floor and cornered there would be a death sentence unless there are enough buildings nearby to cross over to.
no subject
I—If anything, we can find a safe place close to the nearest parking garage. That way we've got an easy escape if we need it?
no subject
[ Jason nods, since this sounds like a good idea to him, but he is also far from a strategist, so. You go, Naoi. ]
I mean, so long as we don't do stupid horror movie stuff like split up, we'll be fine probably.
no subject
That should be fine. We'll just stay near the outskirts and make sure not to spend too much time in any area that doesn't have something nearby. Does anyone know the layout of the mall well?
[Because whoops, strategist or not, Naoi hasn't actually spent much time there.]
no subject
[ This sort of confidence in her voice isn't heard much outside of conversations about music, but she sounds pretty sure of herself. She's been to malls all across the country and even outside of the country, she's noticed pretty well that the layouts are the same when you're not looking for stores.
That, and she always looks for exit strategies in those kinds of places. Just in case. ]
no subject
Then we'll be just fine. [ Probably... ] Shit, maybe we can even eat while we're there. We'll just hunker down in the best spot.
[ He's joking to lighten the mood, probably... But fear corndogs does sound pretty legit ]
no subject
Well, we've got to keep up our strength. Not eating would be stupid. We'd just wind up falling off of the roof in a hunger-induced dizzy spell.
[Fear corndogs are going to happen.
But he'll follow along, feeling pretty reassured by both Jason and Mary. He's usually around equally tightly-wound people in tense situations and they tend to feed off of each other, so it's nice to have Mary's confidence and Jason's bro-tastic guidance (even though he, like pretty much everyone else in the city probably, knows where the mall is too).]
no subject
Mary tucks the arm underneath her own while toying with and lacing her fingers with the robot ones. It's the only thing that keeps her from the nervousness of walking into pure darkness with laughter surrounding them on the next few streets over. There's nothing here except their voices and, if she didn't see the soft glow of their lanterns, she would honestly think this is all a dream. ]
Right. Yeah, definitely! [ She pauses, unsure if she wants to finish her thought. Pizzazz's voice in her brain berates her before she even saves it. ] ...Are we sure the food's safe though? I mean, after last time...
no subject
[ The idea of that makes Jason frown, since yeah, after last time, he should be more distrustful of food, but he also tends to forget having to put an ice pack on his balls out of shame. At least it's not as bad as V, though, he tells himself. ]
...Yeah, uh, that's a good point. Nagoya, you should definitely eat them first.
[ rEVENGE ]
no subject
But he does actually feel sort of guilty about it and therefore kind of stupid for not assuming the same may hold true for whatever other food they scrounge up. He purses his lips at that, glancing off in the direction of the housing district.]
...We could go back and get some of the food that we know is safe. Or— a grocers? We could get canned things. I mean, it won't really help if the source of the food is tainted, but... [HUFFS.] I'll try it first, so it's fine!
no subject
[ Her voice is a little more stern than usual. She's being much more serious than she typically is and she isn't going to let only one of them make a sacrifice for the good of the group. That's not what loyalty means to her, that's not what she would do if the Misfits were in this situation.
Her expression softens, feeling a little embarrassed for sounding so irritated. ]
I... I'll try some too and if anything happens then. Well, Jason can handle us, right?
no subject
[ He answers immediately and with a smile, but the confidence in his voice is much more than he actually feels. To himself, he doesn't think he's good at protecting people at all, since from Sook to these two, he had felt he had failed them all at least once before, but... That's not something he would admit to so easily. ]
I'm just playin' anyways. It's just revenge for Nagoya feedin' me all those shitty burgers that were like, soaked in V or somethin'.
no subject
I already apologized! [It was probably an apology punctuated by laughter as Jason got out the ice pack...]
But we'll be fine if it's canned or something we've already been eating. Like that loaf of bread! Or those bottles of water, those are all good and safe.
no subject
As much as she wishes she could joke though, she can't. So, she doesn't ruin their joking around and only speaks up when Naoi talks about the food. Mary nods again, not able to say much in her anxiousness. ]
That works. As long as it's fresh then nothing will be in it... I hope.
no subject
[ Which, he is, since Jason was too preoccupied to notice naoi's sHITHEAD LAUGHTER at the time.
He's about to say something to the idea of food, but he holds up his arm in the military signal for the group to stop (he'd seen in it a movie), then presses against the wall as a shadow is cast against down the street. ]
Hold up— Somethin' is down there.
no subject
But he'll follow along until Jason gives his super legit stopping signal, which Naoi actually listens to, pulling up alongside him next to the wall.
He also gets his baton ready, even though he's holding it more like a baseball bat...]
...Can you see around the corner from here?
no subject
Is it one of those creepy clowns? Do they really have to be everywhere?
no subject
[ Jason doesn't even realize that isn't quite the right thing to say, and he presses against the wall more, signalling for them to do the same, and for once, that's a good idea. Out steps one of the clowns, but it doesn't seem to notice them, at least. It looks vaguely their way, but then down the other way before, thankfully, just continuing forward. ]
no subject
Naoi still remains by the wall even after though, brow furrowed.]
—Let's wait a second just in case.
no subject
Those things are everywhere. How are we gonna avoid them without getting caught?
no subject
[ Jason nods in agreement with Naoi's suggestion, though, since thankfully he is not Charles, though he looks to Mary with a half smile. ]
Well, we just gotta be careful, I guess? And if they see us, run like hell.
[ good plan ]
no subject
Once Mary exhales, Naoi seems to lose a little tension, too. Life is hard when you're surrounded by clown maniacs...]
Try to run in the same direction, though. Even if splitting up will give them less of a target to aim for, it'll also mean that we would end up being alone if we run into even more of them.
[Said in the chiding tone of a babysitter, good lord.]
...Come to think of it, I might actually know a shortcut to get us to the mall that'll let us avoid some of the alleys around here. It'll just get us to the shopping district in general but from there it shouldn't be too hard to make it the rest of the way, right?
