![]() It's morning when the lights go out completely. Not a single one remains on except the glow of the device and whatever flashlights anyone bothered to stock up on. However, a single hologram in the Shopping District broadcasts along a billboard for a Very Important Announcement. After that, you hear a song so tender and beautiful that it must have been composed by angels at the dawn of time. "Baby, you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed… " When you go outside to investigate, a friendly clown will be inside a stolen(?) ice cream truck, looking to get all your attention before he talks through the speaker on the truck.

Welcome to CEREALIA's fourth official event. For your convenience, we have compiled an OOC post explaining the event in greater detail. Feel free to ask questions there if you have anymore lingering concerns or inquiries. |

[Edgeworth watches her lower her hands from her lantern, but makes no further moves, not wanting to arouse her suspicions. She seems harmless enough, but to be sure, he would watch for any tricks, like suddenly snapping his lantern off his neck or something. Still, if she wanted it badly enough, she could reach out and take it right now.
Her next words catch his attention, and his eyebrows lift slightly.]
If they're wearing masks, it may be hard to tell. They could very well be locals roped into this dangerous game, or somehow brainwashed. [They might even be among the newcomers, those people whose worlds were supposedly destroyed.]
no subject
Some of them speak; have you heard? [Mostly just loud incoherent yelling, but Kaoru has also paid enough attention to the voices of acquaintances and friends alike that it was immediately obvious they weren't anyone personally known.]
...But you're right. I would hope that no one would willingly be roped into such a horrible thing, but the thought that their hands might have been forced... That's a scary thing to consider, too. [Especially with that weirdo out there trying to hand out Pulse like candy at a carnival. A second of somewhat discomforted silence passes before Kaoru adds:]
...I apologize; my name is Nagumo Kaoru. You must be... one of us, then? Not a local?
no subject
Yes, but I do not recognize their voices. [Then again, he hasn't been around for too long to be able to recall the voices of his new acquaintances effortlessly. And he has to agree that the possibilities he has proposed are indeed scary. They could be next, after all. And he may not know any of these people too well, but that didn't mean he was ready to kill them just for a ticket home. An alleged ticket home, rather.]
And no, I'm not a local. My name is Miles Edgeworth.

I wish that circumstances had afforded us a better time and place to become acquainted. [Playing a round of meet the neighbors when everyone is trying to run away from manic clown assailants isn't exactly the best way to leave good first impressions and all.]
Ah— Have you had any trouble, then? [Kaoru's hands come together, folding neatly at waist level.] There are some young men that I spoke to recently who have safe supplies to hand out to those who need it. I'm meant to pass that information on where I can... They have food and medical supplies. I can treat any injuries as well.
[Though a quick once-over doesn't seem to show any grievous damage on the stranger, at least.]
no subject
[He returns her bow with another one of his own. Yes, this would certainly be better with less of the crazy clowns and more of the electricity coming back.]
I've run into my share of trouble, but I believe I've also run into one of those young men you mentioned.

Hinata-san and Komaeda-san, I believe? I've only just med Komaeda-san earlier today, but I've spoken to Hinata-san before. He seems like a very reliable individual, so I would trust that he would be able to take good care of anyone who sought him out.
no subject
Was there anything else that needed to be said? The girl was unarmed. He couldn't imagine her going through the streets on her own. But maybe she had her own abilities and powers.]
If I may, where are you headed?
no subject
I would like to head toward the school soon, or back to where Hinata-san is. I've heard that the former is something of a safe zone and I trust the latter... But my sister is still out here somewhere. [Kaoru's fingers twist together in a anxious-looking gesture, gaze dropping briefly, worried.]
I couldn't possibly go somewhere safe until I know that she will also be safe. There isn't any way that I could live with myself if she came to harm...
no subject
I see. Can you travel on your own? [Or would she need someone to watch her back? If so, he thinks it might be one way to familiarize himself with the surroundings and to investigate.]
no subject
...I would prefer to travel with someone else, if I'm to be honest, but I would hate to burden you so soon when we've only just met. Everyone has their own tasks to accomplish, as well.
no subject
I can accomplish mine even while accompanying another.
no subject
[This guy must either be strong enough to hold his own or confident enough to believe that's the case. Kaoru won't look a gift horse in the mouth though, and the question is followed by another polite bow.]
Please consider me under your care, then. Thank you very much for your kindness... I will do my best to refrain from being burdensome. [Which isn't too hard, at least. It just means to stay out of the way if a fight breaks out, so that Edgeworth won't have to watch two backs.]
I was heading South, but if your travels were taking you in a different direction, I don't mind.
Edgeworth no it's a trap
truly... ruN EDGEWORTH
Thank you again, sir. The people of this city are truly generous... I'll have to repay you someday. [A smile! Kaoru will leave the lantern out for now, too, to add to the light that they can use to see their way.]
May I ask what task it is that you intend to accomplish?
2 late
There is no need to repay me. I simply wish to find the truth about our entire situation. [He also keeps his lantern around his neck for a little extra light. This time, as he walks, he keeps one hand on his saber hilt.]
he ran into danger instead whoops
I see... Mm, I would like to understand the same thing. What their true aim is - and why would they attack now, of all times? There is much about this that I find suspicious. [...] More suspicious than usual, that is.
THIS IS A CHALLENGE HE HAS NEVER ENCOUNTERED BEFORE
WELCOME TO THE NEW GAUNTLET
There has been no end to it since my own arrival. Though people are trying their best to be certain that such horrible things won't happen more often, none of the efforts have actually garnered us a result. CERES doesn't seem keen on listening...
NO TURNING BACK
When did you arrive, if I may ask?
no subject
When? [THAT'S TOUGH. When was it...? It takes Kaoru a second to think back over all the bullshit that's happened since arrival and translate the calendar. Getting western orders right is still a work in progress...]
...I believe that it was three or four months ago, by now. As far as I'm aware, my group was one of the first.
no subject
[WHICH IS, BY THE WAY, KIND OF UNFAIR??]
no subject
Our welcome was comparatively hospitable, for reasons that I'm not entirely sure of. Some people became ill after eating the food served at our party, but we certainly didn't have to deal with being labeled criminals and chased through the streets.
no subject
Why were only some of them ill? [Did they...overeat?]
no subject
I can't say with certainty, sir. Not everyone showed the same symptoms, either... [It was a distressing time.] I believe that it might have been due to certain foods, though. More people who ate the burgers that the CEO served seemed to be getting sick than those who only ate snacks.
no subject
[Edgeworth's eyes narrow. What the heck, why are you serving your esteemed guests food that'll make them sick?]
