[All right, so it's a few days later than intended, but when the night that you plan a party just completely disappears into a mess of mayhem and murderous Santas, well, you improvise. At least, that's been Komaeda's plan. After making sure to let everyone know about the rescheduling, it's just a matter of coordinating.

So here it is. Here they are.

The decorations -- courtesy of Souda -- are up: streamers, balloons, matching party hats all in varying shades of red, black and white. They're draped around the small apartment along with what is probably an oversupply of party poppers. The food is set out in the kitchen and most everywhere else.

There's even a punchbowl that's probably not spiked yet, but how long can that really last anyway? Music -- somewhat questionable in some of its variety -- plays quietly in the background. And outside the apartment, up on the roof of the building for later, the yakuza have provided some festive explosives fireworks.

Perfect night for a party. And Hinata's the kind of guy who deserves a good party. Right? Right. Only rules are: no murdering anyone and have some fun.]

[At some point earlier in the evening, Kuzuryuu made sure to thump Hinata on the back harder than strictly necessary, wish him a happy birthday, laugh at his party hat, and give him his present along with instructions not to open it while he's still around because that would be weird, what's wrong with you?? why is he blushing Of course, Hinata could have chosen to ignore that because it's his birthday, fuck the police yakuza. Or he could have listened. The choice is his.]

[Though regardless of whether or not he waits, his present is going to be the same thing: two boxes. Inside one is an earthenware saké set, glazed in muted oranges and browns. Just below the neck of the battle is a small, black phoenix painted in ink strokes. This same design can be found on the inside bottom of each of the cups. Inside the other box is a bottle of high quality saké. Because you're not in high school anymore and if you're gonna drink, you may as well drink the good stuff. Friends don't let friends drink cheap saké. Though this may also be a response to Hinata's Christmas note. Sure, he's still not crazy about drinking alcohol but...if it's with Hinata, it's okay.]

[But enough of that, GETTING BACK TO THE ROOF NOW. Eventually Kuzuryuu entrusts firework duty to Peko for a bit so he can take a break. And what better way to do that than to hang out with birthday boy again?]

Glad to hear it. That was kinda the point.

[Kuzuryuu you shouldn't be so embarrassed, bros open gifts in front of each other-- but Hinata did carefully open it afterward, and now that gift in question is resting safely downstairs. Don't think he's not taking that as an invitation to sake times together.]

You guys really did a great job.

[He leans against his own hands, propped on the ledge.] And you surprised me... to be honest, with what happened I forgot about my birthday. [HE CAN ADMIT... IT...]

[No, it's embarrassing! Too much pressure, too awkward, he's not sure he could deal with standing there while Hinata opened it. Giving it to him in person instead of leaving it by his door was hard enough.]

Well, surprising you was also the point, so good. I'm just glad you didn't think we forgot, given all that bullshit forcing us to reschedule.

[Even the best laid plans are not immune to being fucked up by CERES. And let's not kid ourselves...these were not the best laid plans. They tried though. The sure did try. It's the thought that counts.]

Well, Hinata's just glad that they all got through it in one piece. It could've been worse, that's for sure.]

Yeah...I wasn't thinking about much else beyond not dying at the time, to be honest. Somehow losing two days was really the bigger problem though, I think. If that hadn't happened, we could have had it on the right damn day.

Ah well. We made it work.

Though... that's still bothering me. The way we lost two days like that.

[He's been wracking his brain over it-- how were they fooled? Perception altered? That could be it. But they still should've felt enough hunger and thirst for that matter for two days...]

You're not the only one. It's one of the things that's bothering me most about that entire situation...the whole thing was fucking weird from start to finish. [He trails off, staring up at the sky to watch one of the fireworks explode.] I just really hope the explanation isn't memory loss.

[Please let it be some kind of perception altering or even some kind of date change system issues or something. Anything but more memory loss.]

[Hinata's eyebrows furrow, his frown deepening.] But I don't have any blanks in my memory... that I've noticed. [He could just not be noticing them but he wonders.]
