[All right, so it's a few days later than intended, but when the night that you plan a party just completely disappears into a mess of mayhem and murderous Santas, well, you improvise. At least, that's been Komaeda's plan. After making sure to let everyone know about the rescheduling, it's just a matter of coordinating.

So here it is. Here they are.

The decorations -- courtesy of Souda -- are up: streamers, balloons, matching party hats all in varying shades of red, black and white. They're draped around the small apartment along with what is probably an oversupply of party poppers. The food is set out in the kitchen and most everywhere else.

There's even a punchbowl that's probably not spiked yet, but how long can that really last anyway? Music -- somewhat questionable in some of its variety -- plays quietly in the background. And outside the apartment, up on the roof of the building for later, the yakuza have provided some festive explosives fireworks.

Perfect night for a party. And Hinata's the kind of guy who deserves a good party. Right? Right. Only rules are: no murdering anyone and have some fun.]

[In response to that, he makes a noncommittal noise. It's true that they have to work together, since they have a wide range of skills here that he and Peko alone don't have.

It's also true that there are not many people here Sousei would trust enough to ask for legitimate assistance. He'll work with the people he has to work with, but... once a lone wolf, always a lone wolf, especially when his own pack of sorts is not here at all.]

We will deal with what comes, and handle it as we have. Just be careful not to overextend yourself.

[Because there are things they can't deal with with just swords, loathe as he is to admit it.]

Understood. So long as we can continue to protect the ones that matter to us... that will have to be enough.

[For Peko it's not just Kuzuryuu, but also now her classmates. For Sousei, she has to imagine it's Tenka and the other people she saw in that memory. Either way, they can't hope to protect the entire colony, but if everyone has someone they can watch out for, it would make it much easier.]

[Protect the ones that matter to them--he nods simply, because that's about right to him as well. The only thing he'd add is:]

I would expand that to the people and things that matter to us, but yes--I agree.

[She's not wrong about Tenka, of course, but...the reason he has always fought is Japan. He fights for his country more than anything, and hearing from these clowns that it's destroyed is something utterly nonsensical to him.

They have to stay vigilant for the sake of everything that matters to them.]

...For now, though, I believe it is possible to remain vigilant and still enjoy your party.

[Maybe it's because Peko is yakuza and not police, but she's less concerned about things, especially here. If they were back home, and if, somehow, "home" still existed how she remembered it, it would be a different story. But here, these things can all be replaced.

She gives him a bit of a look, though, as if trying to figure out if he's implying that she's not enjoying herself.]

[She says with absolutely no variation to her severe expression.]

[at the very least, he's not the sort to judge whether or not she's enjoying herself by her expression. After all, he's the same way with his barely shifting expression...

[he grew up with Tenka, okay--he's used to presents mysteriously disappearing or getting into trouble in some way. Deliver ASAP is the way to go.]
