![]() It's morning when the lights go out completely. Not a single one remains on except the glow of the device and whatever flashlights anyone bothered to stock up on. However, a single hologram in the Shopping District broadcasts along a billboard for a Very Important Announcement. After that, you hear a song so tender and beautiful that it must have been composed by angels at the dawn of time. "Baby, you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed… " When you go outside to investigate, a friendly clown will be inside a stolen(?) ice cream truck, looking to get all your attention before he talks through the speaker on the truck.

Welcome to CEREALIA's fourth official event. For your convenience, we have compiled an OOC post explaining the event in greater detail. Feel free to ask questions there if you have anymore lingering concerns or inquiries. |

[Honestly, this could be completely foolhardy. But, it wouldn't be the first time that they've done something completely foolhardy, now would it? The answer to that is no, all around.
It's why they're outside, he and Komaeda, picking their way through the dark. Hinata has the katana he took from one of the assassin droids at his waist, had given Komaeda his pistol earlier, and underneath his clothes are hidden various shivs, other weapons he might need. The glowing necklace around his neck feels like a beacon, even if he's stuffed it down the front of his shirt.
And he can swear he can hear them. Skittering somewhere, here and there, in the dark. People. Rats. How boring. His hand flexes where it's placed on the hilt of the katana, gripping it until he's white-knuckled. He looks over one shoulder, aware, hyperaware of Komaeda.]
This way— [It's not a second after he's said it that he hears them, surging out of the woodwork and he sees necklaces glowing in the dark. And there's laughter and the flash of masks and he swears as he steps back, closer to Komaeda.] —shit.
phase alpha (alternate option)
[After the somewhat extraordinarily dangermongering events of above, Hinata returned the hell back to his apartment. It's where this broadcast is coming from, in fact, and it seems that in the background and around him there are various candles lit.
...it could either be incredibly romantic or incredibly creepy, depending on who you are.
So, it's probably creepy to you. Especially with those sharp red eyes of his, and that just-as-sharp frown.] Oi. I guess, by now, everyone's seen them, right? Those clown-masked people. You might've already been fighting them, since they're everywhere.
Do people have supplies? Medical? Food or even candles? Me and Komaeda've got some we can spare. We don't know how long this is gonna go on, after all.
I think the best bet is to hide. It's obviously a lie, after all. There's no way in hell we're going to be able to go back just because we kill people and collect these useless things. [He gives the necklace around his throat a derisive tug.] Anyway, keep safe. Let people know if you need help, I can probably lend a hand.
And... Don't buy any of it.
[And with that, he'll incline his head.]
phase iii
[Maybe you've placed your drink or your food down somewhere. Perhaps you were trying to gather supplies, in a public but hidden place that you thought it was safe to actually rest for a moment and try to get some sustenance into you. You might not notice the masked gentleman who slinks and sidles closer to your cup or your plate with his product in hand, ready to slip it in...
But someone else sure has.
Who knows why you turned away when you did but, once you turn to retrieve your food or your drink, you might find Hinata suddenly there, holding the sharp, curved edge of a hunter's knife against a masked man's throat, his face impassive but somehow still managing to exude a feeling of powerful anger. He'll give you a quick look before pushing the knife harder, just enough to score a bleeding line.]
Get the hell out of here.
[If you didn't see your stuff starting to be slipped something this might be hella confusing to you, but at least he softens once the masked man, stumbling, turns and runs for his life.] ...Looks like he was about to add something. I guessed it was better to stop him and scare him off.
phase iv
[After that whole debacle and despite an overwhelming urge to bitch CERES out, Hinata decides to leave that until after more important matters. Doesn't mean he's not muttering about it to himself, though, something about stupid excuses and no evidence and yeah of course you were off in a jungle that's really convenient isn't it.
While he's mumbling, feel free to find him raiding the nearest grocery store near you collecting various non-perishables and other such essentials. Oh and at some point he pulls that stupid fucking necklace from around his neck and pointedly crushes it in a hand before dropping it in a trash can.
:| Hmpf.]
no subject
He's been sticking close, close as he can. The gun Hinata entrusted with him is tucked at his waist, ready to be pulled if need by, and his crowbar is in his (brand new) hand just in case. But he's hoping that they manage to make it back without trouble, without encountering--
Oh. Yes, it's not good. Those dancing lights of necklaces, that eerie laughter.]
Hajime-kun. Be careful. [He doesn't hesitate to draw his gun. How many? How many of them are there? Can they manage to get out of this?]
no subject
[Hinata's voice is quiet as his eyes flicker between people, counting, five, six, they're outnumbered, and Hinata thinks he can see more shapes nearby. How many? What should they do? How should he protect Komaeda? He looses the katana in its sheath slowly, his fingers folding around the hilt.]
Stay close to me...
[In that case, they'll be safe. They will, won't they? Except, he realises how hard that'll be once the masked people surge toward them and he's trying to keep his mind on Komaeda and fighting both, katana whipping out--but knocking out with swift blows of the sheath, sending one crumpling the moment they reach him.]
no subject
He will try to stay close though. But almost immediately it becomes clear that their assailants have other ideas. Komaeda knows that the gun is limited in ammo without having to stop to reload, so at first he swings his crowbar instead. But dodging and twisting away while he tries to fend off the clown-masked people brings him further and further from Hinata.
He brings the gun up then, and it does at least slow down the approach, but now they're more intent on surrounding him, drawing him and Hinata away from each other.]
no subject
Nagito--
[He shouts to him, but then he's busy dodging a weapon, feeling his heart starting to pound. Not from the fight, but seeing Komaeda slowly but surely surrounded. Pound, pound, pound, why is he getting so far away, there are too many of them around him, Hinata needs to get to him but he--
He--]

Either way, it seems like they've had similar ideas. After all the madness has died down and his apologies for being a dang nut have been made, he's decided that he'll do what he can to prevent the actually preventable aspects of any future debacle. That means stocking up on fuel, matches, flashlights - of which he has several cradled in his arm by the time he catches sight of Hinata putting that necklace where it SO RIGHTFULLY BELONGS. After a second of contemplation, he decides to voice one of his more immediate concerns.]
I wonder if things are just going to keep declining. Seems like they've been that way from the start.
no subject
He can't help a small scowl, not at Naoi, but at the thought, at the stupid incompetence or purposeful neglecting of CERES or maybe they're engineering this all those sons of bitches grrrrrrr--]
Seems like it. And we can't rely on anyone but ourselves... and each other to fight against whatever happens.
Each time, it's gotten more dangerous.
no subject
It's going to be hard to rely on each other if we always have morons in the mix that think it's a good idea to listen to these stupid things. [...] Or ways to get people to play along even if they know better.
[Naoi is still buttblasted about Pulse and will never not be.]
I don't think they're doing a good job of creating an environment of distrust if that's their aim, but they're making a mess of communication and cooperation.
no subject
The stuff that they were adding to food or trying to hand out... [Yeah getting drugged =/= Hinata's idea of a big time.] Not the first time someone would've manipulated people into doing something against their will.
[He gets it, Naoi... It sucks. EVERYTHING SUCKED. Also that this was just like home was an unpleasant reminder for him.]
And then they just throw out that excuse afterward. Wasn't that just too convenient?

Though his expression does twitch into the faintest of smiles upon seeing Hinata rush that necklace. It's not a happy expression, but it's definitely one that says he understands.]
Incompetent seems less likely by the day.
[That was out and out malicious, if he does say so himself.]
no subject
[He says with great exasperation, as though Hinata's just glad for a welcoming ear who'd understand... He turns toward Sousei, feeling a touch of relief to see him all in one piece.
But, not terribly surprising, either. He'd thought he'd seemed capable.]
no subject
He hates this place.]
However, this... I can't understand the purpose behind this.
[There are easier ways to weed them out... did they want to turn them against each other? Was there another faction working within Cerealia? Who knows.]
no subject
Bait people with a false reward of being sent home to try and get us to kill each other? Yeah.
It's a lot more overt than what's happened before.

... So they've moved on to drugging drinks now? [ and she'll give her soda a wistful glance; she'd miss the caffeine. ] Classy.

[Hinata sighs and rubs one of his fingers against his temple before tucking his knife below his dark jacket. He looks at Yang now, brushing off his hands before burying them in his pockets.]
Here, how about I treat you to another one?
no subject
That's sweet, but my adrenaline's up and at 'em again, so I should be fine now. Thanks for the help.
no subject
[Hinata yelps a small protest, his head ducking down and out of the way as he sidesteps. Oof well there goes his ahoge. All crooked. And of course the rest of his hair.]
If you're sure... How have you been managing? I hope you haven't run into too many of those masked guys.

phase iv;
He inspects a bread loaf, sniffing at it to make sure it's not rotting before liberally stuffing it in his mouth. At that moment, he happens to hear a sound off to the side, one that startles him, and he's quickly holding the bread loaf in a defensive manner in front of him. ]
Who's there? Come on! You ain't hidin' from me! Come out and face me so I can get back to my lunch!
no subject
[Hinata is standing there surveying some of the food with a skeptical eye, one that breaks from the food in order to look at Nine. Or, well, sort of at Nine. He's mostly staring at that loaf of bread held defensively in front of him.]
What were you planning on doing with that bread...? [Lob it at him?? Yeah it would be unpleasant to be hit with bread but.]
no subject
Eatin' it obviously. What else would anyone do in this place?
[ Aside from shop for stuff and pay for it prior to eating it, but they're way beyond that at this point. Nine's long since given up on doing things the civil way. ]
Ain't that what you're here for, or you out to get lanterns? I'm not givin' up mine if that's the case.
[ He doesn't want to knock the guy out either, but if push comes to shove, he's definitely shoving hard. ]
no subject
I'm here to get supplies. [He lifts up his bag as indication, then lifts up his free hand in that universal gesture of "I'm unarmed" or "I come in peace".]
I'm not interested in your lantern, either... or this ridiculous "game" of theirs.
[A soft, derisive snort as he remembers-- these types of games, he's long since sick of them.]

Komaeda and Miss Nagumo mentioned your base. I have supplies as well; we could pool our resources if need be.
no subject
Me and Komaeda have been stockpiling since... well, since we got here, so of course.
If this drags out, it might get worse. We can probably still get into stores and stuff if we've got to, but I don't know if that's that safe. [Not with clown-masked people lurking around every corner...]
no subject
[Doesn't mean he wants to. Edgeworth doesn't actively look for trouble...no, in this case, trouble has been finding him a lot lately.
Basically he's offering his help, Hinata. ISN'T THAT GREAT?]
no subject
[Good news. The more people who can fight, the better.]
So then... maybe we can work together. It'd be safer for someone to keep watch while another person's getting supplies, wouldn't it?
