Learning is Fundamental! Let's play CERESLearn

ViViD's usual worlds are unfortunately down for maintenance. While CERES' programmers work on getting it back up and running, all new entrees this round will be going through a different level than usual. Only a single world is accessible at the moment, a simple one entitled 'CERESLearn.' "What the $%@& is this?" you must be thinking. Well, it's simple!

It's a study program, of course! CERES' advanced AI technology is here to make sure you learn and that you learn sexily. Whether or not you pay attention to the actual content is up to you, the player. Please enjoy it while it lasts. They're here to teach you a variety of subjects and also to make you feel vaguely uncomfortable all over.

New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves in a classroom with a new operator greeting them rather than Vidia.

"Greetings and welcome to Cerealia! It's nice of you to join us at last. As you can see, we're just about to get started!

Here are the instructions:

♥ Choose your subject of choice. They include things like medicine, math, CERES economics, CERES history, fun facts about Julius, engineering, and science!
♥ Choose your tutor. You can hire Astor, Hilda, or UN-Zippy
♥ They'll teach you slowly, deliberately, sensually. Then after that, they'll drill you hard and without stopping.
♥ Just when you think you've had enough, they'll quiz you all over until you're sweating and panting.
♥ For those of you who pass, you'll be welcomed well into Cerealia and be given a free voucher for a McCERES Mildly Content meal. Please enjoy!"

PHASE I

[ xxxx ] Once you choose your lesson and your tutor, you will be transported to a classroom where you and a few other players who decide to choose the same lesson will sit with your tutor after school, getting knowledge taught to you by someone who seems more intent on learning what's under your clothes than filling your head with knowledge. They will be awkwardly stretching, dropping pencils by 'accident' on the floor, and bending down slowly to pick them up. Certain things might be spilling out of their clothes. Awkward things. They will breathe down your neck and make sure you are well-versed in their anatomy by the end of the lesson.

Fortunately, it won't last long as their bodies start to flicker erratically.

PHASE II

[ xxxx ] Just as things begin to escalate, the flickering will grow intense until your tutor will start to morph before your eyes. What takes their place is something that is anything but friendly. And yes, it will continue to breathe down your neck and speak in a sweet, soft, alluring voice while reaching out with its 'hands' to try and touch you.

This will be your cue to run through the halls of the school while That Thing chases you in every single direction imaginable. There will be others joining you as everyone starts bolting out of their classrooms.

PHASE III

[ xxxx ] Feeling tired already? Well, don't stop and rest now! For those who successfully murder their own tutor, they will get their food voucher and a lovely welcome into CERES. You've officially passed! Everyone will be allowed to mingle around the game room in the CERES Research Tower before being directed into McCERES just across the street. For those who were already in the colony, you will also receive a voucher and directions to McCERES at the end of the game in case you want to go meet up with the newcomers there or just eat some artery-killing fast food.

PHASE IV

[ xxxx ] For those who get eaten by That Thing or don't pass their quizzes and upset their tutors, they will be forced to endure the Price of Failure. This means being sent to the gym with the other 'failures' to endure a painfully slow and erotic striptease by UN-Zippy. Once that is over, they will then be logged out and allowed to have their complimentary McCERES voucher.

BONUS

[ whyo'clock ] Congratulations on surviving CERESLearn! Here's your complimentary voucher for a free Mildly Content Meal at McCERES. This month's special is also the McKnight Burger. Characters are immediately invited to take a load off and enjoy some good ol' fashion fast food of questionable origin. Those who decide to order and eat here will also get a special toy included inside their Mildly Content Meals.

[ why must things be this way.

At first, Zara was actually glad that his trial was, apparently, studying. He could handle studying. In fact, it was something he did on his own time fairly often! Maybe this wouldn't be so bad, after all.

Just kidding, of course it's that bad. It's quickly obvious from the way Hilda is lingering on the anatomical parts of science (and the way she's making eyes at him) that this is not going to be particularly educational - at least not in any way he's interested. His expression slowly grows more and more annoyed-slash-mortified, and it's obvious he's about to rise from his seat and leave any moment now... with poor timing. Are you volunteering to help teacher demonstrate, Skeens?, she croons. ]

Absolutely not! This is completely inappropriate. [ is his adamant reply, and he really is about to turn and leave - when he suddenly sees her shape flicker. ] ... What's wrong with you?

[ there are a lot of answers to that question, zara... ]

phase ii

[ best answer: she's a giant bug thing. Zara was pretty eager to leave already, and he 's quick to turn tail and run with the rest of them when he catches a glimpse of that monster. However, after getting chased around for several minutes, he decides that this really isn't going anywhere. Skidding to a stop on his heels, Zara suddenly flips up the cane he's been holding with one hand and unsheathes it, revealing a hidden sword. ]

Go on! Run ahead! I'll stall it here!

[ take his advice? Or help him out? That bug does look an awful lot more menacing than the purply-pink rabbit-eared man pointing a rapier at it. ]

bonus

[ tired after all of that, Zara was happy to sit down and have a meal. Rather than digging into his burger, however, he's eyeing it skeptically. After a moment, he sniffs it, nose wrinkling. ]

... Are you sure this is beef?

[ he's never had fast food in his life... it smells good, but not like any meat he's ever had before. And he can't help but be a little suspicious after the rest of the day he's had. ]

[Hirari doesn't know who he is? Also why is he dressed so weirdly? What the hell happened while he was gone?

these are all very important questions and if Tenka stopped to think about them more, he might come up with something better than-]

Amnesia...?! You're too young to already be forgetting me!!

[Ah.... that's a familiar sword too.

(But this guy looks familiar too. That police officer Botan had brought along, right...? Sousei doesn't quite know if he ever caught his name, though, but why does he have his sword?)

Sousei backs off as well, circling the insect warily. The fact that it's not dead from a blow like that shows how dangerous it is.]

... Very well then. Let's finish this quickly, so we can deal with your injuries.

[Because you don't want to die on your first day, that'd be sad.]

[Ah... well, she's polite. Especially after such a startling show as that. Sousei just turns away from the insect (he highly doubts it's getting back up), answering her with a nod.]

There's no need to thank me. It is not your fault that you've been put in this situation.

[He is glad that she's safe, though.]

It is probably not safe to remain in this place, though.

Do they? I've never been in a school like this one.

[Because... medieval setting. None of your fancy gyms and well okay maybe fields depending on locale but.]

[Lightly, as Elza invites himself to a seat next to Zara, pausing only a moment to nod his head. He doesn't make any moves to touch his own food quite yet... despite giving it a sniff and the bun a mildly interested poke.

Instead, he's half-twisting in his chair to face Zara properly, one hand removing his longsword and propping it nearby. Within reach but out of the way.]

russia himself is not the most tactful guy in the world, and he's used to dealing with even more tactless people—so really, there's nothing to worry about... for the most part. after a short pause, russia's going to turn to face butch head-on, giving him his full and (disturbingly) undivided attention. again, he steers the topic away from himself.

sorry, butch, he's literally the worst conversational partner you could have picked right now. ]

You are American, yes? [ he'd recognize that particular cadence anywhere, not that it truly matters anymore. without giving butch room to reply, he continues: ] The Americans I have met have all been very—patriotic.

Their motivations are certainly suspect.

[Though he's not sure why they would bring them here in the first place, then...there's nothing obvious to make it clear, and Sousei doesn't know enough about the technology to imagine what that could have to do with it all. Basically, it's impossible to figure out with what they know now.]

[ Ciel listens seriously, and there's an intensity to his expression that implies that he's nearly memorizing every word, though the reasons why of course wouldn't be obvious to Reim. But of course Ciel is interested in this, whether for his own interests or out of friendship with Oz. ]

They sound like demons.

[ He says it idly, but is deliberate in not saying more than that. ]

[ At least Kazama accomplishes one thing with speaking up. Shuu actually stops his little kicking party over here, and instead he raises his eyebrows as he hears that sentence. The voice doesn't sound familiar, but.. even so, it's someone who knows his last name. And he's only introduced himself that way to specific people, with the way demon customs are back in his time and their tendency to not tell people their last names unless they really trust them..

So who is this then?

He turns his head to look, his naturally golden gaze meeting Kazama's own red eyes. Shuu doesn't even need to look for more than a moment to know it's someone he doesn't recognize whatsoever.. but then how does this guy know him?

It's too confusing and annoying to put up an act, especially sine he was already pissed off to begin with. ]

[ huMANS...... in fact, he's so annoyed over this (and he looks like he's about to rip apart his coupon) that he doesn't even notice something oddly familiar about Kaoru yet, demon-wise. He'll probably catch on in a little bit, give him a moment to get over his shitlord baby self. ]

[She is patient while he looks for the right arm of Shonen Exodia, and when his attention returns to her, she smiles.]

It looks like they've done a decent job of patching you up for the moment, but you'll want to keep a careful eye on things so they don't get infected... [1860s medical knowledge at its finest.] As long as we're very careful about it, you should be on the road to a full recovery quickly enough.

[Reim shrugs at Ciel's little assessment. The way he sees it, they stop being demons - things parents tell their children stories about at night to make sure they behave - and start being very real things when you actually have to face them. He's never met a demon, he thinks, technically speaking.]

That depends on the method. If it's improperly done, as I said, the Chain will eventually overpower the human... It's a rather unpleasant end for both of them, as a contract is difficult to break once it's been made. If it's done safely, it's rather like having an ordinary familiar.

[With DEATH POWERS, but details.]

[Honestly, Reim still isn't sure how much to believe about the supposed method of bringing them here. Not only because he doesn't understand it - it would definitely help the decision, if he did - but because it seems just as likely that at least some of them fell through legitimate and real cracks in existing worlds. Instead of this story that each world was destroyed, and somehow... well.

He's taking notes on holograms to inch closer to a real understanding of what's going on, at least.]

If we consider that assumption correct, then... They simply can't control their own, er, holograms? Or someone else is interfering? Meaning no offense, but it sounds like there are too many unknowns to decide anything at all right now.

[Zara, Zara... New friend, no, don't do that. Reim stops short himself when Zara decides to hang back, though not for the same reason. He's more annoyed by that than surprised at the sudden sword, really - he thinks it's pretty ridiculous to take on a bug monster all by yourself, actual ability level irrelevant.
